Excuse me if I don't believe him. You get popped for a DUI you know what you blew. It's one of those things you do not forget. Couple that with the official police report stating that officer could not obtain a PBT, ehh, lots of questions. Why would the arresting officer make up Joose out of nowhere? Don't believe him there either. I would think the BPD would see him as a high profile figure and be very careful to be accurate in their reports. We got the spin/damage control answers. To KWSN's credit they are focusing on the bigger story, how does this go undiscovered for a month? Yeah - I'm not buying most of the story either. Also, while preaching "take responsibility," he says they waited a month 'because that is what the lawyer said' (which isn't a reason, of course) and he doesn't know the defining thing to measure breaking the law (BAC). Both are BS. He has the arrest report. I've got to say, I thought he was a stand-up guy and a mediocre coach. He is rapidly losing credibility with me.

I lost all respect for Stig and their football team after the "not my MVP", faking cramps 22 times during this years game, and not suspending players until after last season was over when they found out about infractions before their playoff game. All the lying that is coming out of this issue like "I've never drank a beer in my life" but I'm slamming Joose does little to affect that.
It does make him lose a lot of credibility with recruits and their parents however. As does the lack of ownership and punishment by their administration.

So much effort put into branding themselves as such a wholesome program, in complete defiance of reality.

Pound state, not Joose.

Didn't someone in the school admin have to pull some strings to keep it out of the paper? That should be public record. We wouldn't have the luxury of keeping the report out of the paper if it happened to us.

The denial on the bunny board is amazing. Nidaros is calling out Yote53 for banning 2 people on our board. The hypocrisy is so strong from the board that wants nothing but compliments from outside posters. He is also trying to claim the "Beat State Not Your Wife" incident from 2004 turned into a USD conspiracy theory. www.keloland.com/news/article/other/sdsu-students-react-to-athletic-directors-arrestI may have to crack that shirt out for the summit tourney this weekend.

If the Brookings Register wouldnt have seen the police report I don't think State would have released it at all.

I banned two State posters for trolling immediately after the football game this fall. They have since had their accounts reinstated. They can run their board how they like and we will run our board how we see fit.

We have no idea what the BAC is because it was not in the report. The report states ".08 or higher" and it also states the PBT was unable to be completed (which is interesting in and of itself).

So I just wasted my time and read the thread over on the bunny board. I have to say, there are quite a few posters over there that are owning this and are dealing with it quite well. There are some that are in complete denial though. That would be the case for any fan base, including our own, if something similar happened.
Interesting I got called out by name for wanting to crucify Stig. I haven't said a word about what should happen to him. I haven't called for him to be fired or anything. I've mostly been laughing at the absurdity of all this, it's almost surreal, you seriously can't make up the whole doing my taxes while drinking Joose thing. Personally, I think the guy deserves a second chance. I like to throw back a few beverages and have a good time, you all know that, and I’ve been pretty open about it. I will say this, be cautious about who you put on a pedestal, people are not always who they appear to be. Not saying Coach Stig is not who he appears to be, but I will say I have known a few closet alcoholics in my time. I had a neighbor who I didn’t even know was a drinker. I would have never guessed that he would duck into a room and slam down vodka and was a raging alcoholic to the point his whole life has fallen apart, he has lost his family and everything he owned. Outwardly, I had no idea he even drank.
The part of this story I will condemn though is the cover-up part of it. The whole thing just stinks. If a prominent USD coach got popped for a DUI it would be in the Plain Talk record the very next week, with every other police record. It would immediately be all over the news, as we saw this fall with some of our now former football players. How has this incident been kept quite for over a month in Brookings? Was there or was there not a PBT administered? Conflicting reports. Anybody who has taken a PBT remembers the number they blew, everyone I have ever talked to remembers this because it is a life changing moment, yet Stig can't remember? The official report says a PBT could not be administered. Huh? It says Stig admitted he had been drinking Joose. What? I would think if you're filing a report on a high profile figure that report would be very accurate because it is kind of a big deal. So what are we supposed to think about these details, they are all a mistake? Of course Coach Stig isn’t going to make a public statement, his attorney told him to be quite, as he should as he is the accused and has a trial date coming up. I’m speaking more to the administration and some of the strange circumstances surrounding this incident.
Here is my view on the two institutions, USD and SDSU. Both institutions have had incidents. Incidents are going to happen, we are all human and sometimes humans make mistakes and bad things happen. I look at more how the institution deals with the fallout of these mistakes. USD administration immediately deals with them. Zero tolerance. SDSU is more closed about how they handle these things and, dare I say, tends to cover them up. I know which method I would prefer to see.

I would hope to hear a lawyers opinion on the fact that it took 4 weeks or so for this to come out. Is it really a conspiracy theory or a cover up if it isn't disclosed immediately by the school, Police department or individual?

I don't really think this was a coverup. I think they probably wanted to wait to see what the blood test was to see whether charges were going to be filed. I think if the BAC came back close to .08 they wouldn't have filed charges and we never would have heard about this. If that would have happened you could say it was maybe a bit of a coverup. I'm pretty sure the BAC came back well over the limit and there was no avoiding charges being filed. At that point he figured he better try to get out ahead of it. I'm sure this will be a plea and if he's able to help it he will try to keep his actual BAC from getting to the public. As far as his PBT goes I'm not so quick to think that Stig is automatically lying when he says he took one but doesn't know the result, while the police report says they were unable to get one. I bet they tried and he was too drunk to give a sufficient sample so they were never able to give a reading. He thinks he gave one because he did blow into a PBT, he doesn't know the result because there never was a result. They only way I will believe his story about having a few glasses of wine and going out to eat is if his BAC does come back near that .08 level. I will be very surprised if that happens though. I believe what was in the report, that he told officers he was drinking joose (and I would have to believe officers would have clarified what he meant, but maybe not) and if he was in fact drinking joose then the BAC will be high and Stig's story will be shot to shit. Not to mention, if the BAC is as high as I think it's going to be, you don't get there unless you are an experienced drinker.
So to recap, I wouldn't really say there was a cover-up (I think there would have been had the BAC been close to the .08), I don't think Stig was necessarily lying about giving a PBT and not knowing the result, but I do think he was lying about having a few glasses of wine on an empty stomach. Getting the actual BAC will tell me how credible his story is. If it's close to .08 then he might be telling the truth, if it's high then he's lying. Which by the way I don't even fully condemn him for that. All jokes aside, it would be pretty alarming to think your 61 year old coach is a closet joose drinker. If he was lying I can't even say I blame him.

Will be interesting to track this story and see if the planned/staged release of info will work and everyone will forget about it once the SLT starts... Side note - I read the rabbits forum on this topic, and was amazed/disappointed to see that not a single poster on 14 pages stated anything close to 'Stig did it, he should be punished.' They actually go after one poster for quoting the police report, instead of saying "move on" or "we've all done it" or "nothing to see here".
