I thought Utah State was an odd job to leave for until I saw the dollars involved. With some of the powerhouse programs such as Texas and Baylor a coach would be going up against in the Big12, I would imagine even bigger dollars would be involved. Amy sure didn't do too bad for herself going to a power 5 conference. My point isn't that the Big 12 is a bad place to be, but surely he could have landed a power conference gig ages ago. Why now and why Texas Tech? Why not Iowa or Wisconsin or something? (assuming they've opened up at some point in the last several years) It IS a little odd, not because there is anything wrong with Texas Tech, but because he is a small-town Minnesotan, born and raised. All of his professional experience and recruiting has been in the Minnesota/ND/SD region. He has established relationships with the top high schools and AAU teams in this region. His two previous programs that he was interested in (and hired at one) were Minnesota and Green Bay. Maybe he sees Dawn as a future threat to his sterling legacy? Maybe he has always wanted to live in West Texas? Who knows. Another possibility is that this is all just speculation on the part of this blogger, who has zero inside sources but wants to seem important. I have mixed feeling about the possibility of A.J. leaving. It would be bad for the SDSU WBB program, and I like that. On the other hand, what I would REALLY like is for A.J. to stay there, and for Dawn to beat him and the Jacks on a regular basis, especially in the SLT. I'd rather see both programs battling for the crown year after year, with the rest of the conference improving enough to raise the collective RPI, and get that elusive at-large bid. One more thing to speculate about and wait for news to break. Entertainment.

I'm skeptical there's any truth to it. Texas Tech is too far out of left field for me.

If he's not careful, AJ is going to paint himself into a corner and never be able to leave Brookings, which is fine if he's content there. He has built himself a nice gig up north.

I'd stay forever if I were him. The school and town love him and he gets $225k a year coaching a team that is getting some national attention in the WBB world. There is a reason he changed his mind on leaving.

I don't disagree with you at all and if it were me I'd probably be the type to stay as well, but if someone waved 5 million dollars in my face and you're looking at generational security, it would just be hard to say no. Unfortunately, I've never faced that dilemma.

Texas Tech outside your recruiting footprint? Doubt it.

If there is any truth to the TT coaching search, and this guy's sources are right, color me unimpressed with the TT AD. Being turned down by multiple candidates, and having that leak out means you didn't do your due diligence to try and gauge interest confidentially before making offers. This is why you either hire a third party to help, or you do a better job to keep a lid on it. Otherwise you will get egg on your face.
I think Herbster has done a good job of that so far. This is a big hire for the men's coach, so I guess we'll see what rumors and sources come out. So far it is all just speculation by posters and media.

The Texas Tech hiring fiasco enters another week with a Summit League coach in the crosshairs. This time it's J.D. Gravina.

Now the buzz is that Stollings has been offered the TT job and that Minnesota will be looking.. but I’m not sure the salary would be in her range. mobile.twitter.com/wbballhoopscoop

Now THAT would be significant. For both Johnston and Plitzuweit. I'm pretty sure Minnesota would be his dream job. If he isn't at least considered then shame on them. The guy just recruits the hell out of Minnesota. If we ever lose Coach P it would likely be to a Big Ten or Big East team IMO.
