Interesting discussion on the Minnesota website about coaches to replace Stollings (If she leaves). They had been discussing this since January, so likely she has been on the hot seat. I think there is a rule or etiquette issue with linking to other message boards, so I won't do that.
I will say that I am surprised at how many posters there (Gopherhole) are very anti-Aaron Johnston. The fact that he backed out of the Green Bay job years ago seems to have given him a bad rep, at least with fans. To me that's kind-of a silly thing to hold against him. Green Bay is a great program, no doubt, but still a mid-major. IMO there is zero chance he would back out of a Power-5 opportunity in his home state.

Funny! I mentioned that post a couple months ago, and another thread on this board, and I got ripped by another poster saying there is no way that Minnesota is going to get rid of Stollings. That she is too popular with her success this year.... but the fans here in Minnesota do not like her at all! And they are right, she does not try to recruit Minnesota, she waits until the girls go somewhere else and then gets them on the balance a year or two later. And then she wastes red shirt years and scholarships on all those girls. This will be very interesting...

I don't know if "ripped" is the right word. All I pointed out is that Stollings shouldn't be on the hot seat for really any reason other than a bunch of message board posters who don't actually know anything feeling like they "don't like" her.
If that's how an AD is going to evaluate a coach, I'd be heading out at the first opportunity as well.

If that coach wasn't recruiting Minnesota well it probably pissed off a lot of High School and AAU coaches, as well as the general fan-base. Just a guess, but booster's opinions are often similar to the general fan-base as well. When boosters don't like you, fair or not, you have a problem.

Which is all fine and dandy. But again if you're expecting a coach to come in new three years ago and just start hauling in the top Minnesota recruits immediately, you don't know anything. And if you just want her to recruit Minnesota kids who aren't the top kids to keep parents and AAU coaches happy, you deserve to be disappointed.
By any objective measure, Stollings has done just fine in the four years she's been on campus. If the boosters and message board posters are going to run her off for the work she's done thus far, she should be looking to go elsewhere ASAP ... and let the next coach try to live up to unrealistic expectations of parents, AAU coaches and message board posters.

I mean, for God's sake, the woman has had three 20-win seasons in four seasons (of the 11 TOTAL in school history) at the helm. All the other coaches in Gopher history have eight 20-win seasons. Stollings has three in four years. But yeah, she should be on the hot seat because parents don't like her.

Funny thing about Minnesota, the Gopher backers think the coach should not only win but win with an all-Minnesota roster. Check out the Gopher hockey team and talk to a few Gopher hockey fans. Not happy unless they are winning AND winning with all Minnesota boys.

And I get that, I do. If she was under .500 with a bunch of kids from California, then can her.
But there was a reason Stollings was brought in four years ago and it wasn't because the program was firing on all cylinders (and it's not like Minnesota women's basketball was some kind of perennial juggernaut in the first place). I don't really understand what Minnesota fans think they want if they truly believe that Stollings hasn't played the hand she was dealt more than admirably.

The rub at MN is that those wins came with the former coaches recruits, which included a couple all-americans. Stollings' recruiting record has not been great (or even good). Next year is expected to be a very-down-year.

Considering three of the top four scorers were a transfer that came back to town under Stollings, a sophomore and a freshman, I find that statement to be kind of hard to believe.

Yeah - that's the rub. Word on the street is that they came back because she didn't bother when they were in HS/AAU, but wanted to go to U of M. No one here is trying to convince you of anything (go to GopherHole if you want to get in an argument about it).

It sure sounds like you're trying to convince me of something. Apparently Stollings was supposed to have wrapped up Bell (a 2014 graduate) before she ever even got the Minnesota job?
And the freshman and sophomore on this year's team aren't Stollings' recruits?
I mean, what?

Uhhh ohhh... I smell turmoil at the school up north... what would they do if they lost AJ? I think he and Stig are founding members of that school...

They didn't hire him last time around, but there's a new AD this time. Could be interesting.
