AJ is too big of a dork to go anywhere else. Same reason Stigeldork has never left. A lot of people at the ag school are a special kind of weird that would rather sit in the middle of nowhere SD than go out into the big scary world and try to make a career.
It's 2-4 years of school getting a general studies degree and back to the farm in Arlington thinking SD State has a national presence in all sports.

that is actually a slam towards USD because those dorks have defeated the Coyotes much more often than not.

Says the "yote" fan who has likely never left South Dakota. But that's ok, we just kick your ass and somehow keep our best players around till their eligibility is used up. Why can't you keep a player like Mooney in Vermillion? Still a second rate school with a second rate athletic program in a second rate town. Should have stayed D2 and competed with Augie and Northern State.

Let's get the smack talk (and profanity) out of this thread, shall we? 29 obviously has a thin skin and a short fuse. Not a great combo for posting in your rival's message board.

Lindsay Whalen has been named Coach for the Gophers!! YES!! Boy - I hope for the best for her & the Gophers, but my gut tells me this will be a trainwreck. Zero coaching experience taking over a B1G program.....ooof. Safe hire by the AD though - who can get mad about hiring Whalen, even if it doesn't work out?

While Whalen has not been a coach of a college program, she has done a lot of coaching from the sidelines of the Lynx, especially when she was injured last summer. If you watch the games, in the huddle, it is quite often her telling people what to do. I know this is quite different from a college program, but if she has some good assistants around her, I think she can bring an energy to this program that has been missing with the past several coaches. I’m not saying it’s going to be a walk in the park, but I am excited to see what she can do.

Sounds like she needs an experienced assistant head coach.... ala Majerle/Lee.
I nominate A.J. Johnston.

Or Connie Yori, she needs to build some rep back up. I doubt the Gophs would consider. Saban has done this with many guys like Kiffen, Sark, ect. His sitiation is obviously much different though.

Don't know if it has wrecked yet but it's dangerously out of control. I think this is why they don't let internet posters hire coaches.

I think this is why they don't let internet posters hire coaches. I won't argue that the Whalen hire isn't looking great at this point, (her lack of coaching experience may have played into the recent transfer of their best player) but to be fair, this is the middle of her second season. You had talked glowingly about Stollings earlier in this thread. I think a comparison of both coaches' performances thus far is fair: season | W/L | Conference | MN 2018 | 24-9 | 11-5 | MN 2019 | 21-11 | 9-9 | MN 2020 | 12-8 | 2-7 | TT 2018 | 7-23 | 1-17 | TT 2019 | 14-17 | 4-14 | TT 2020 | 13-5 | 2-5
|
Objectively, I'd say the trend lines favor Stollings over Whalen. Whalen inherited a good team and is regressing. Stollings inherited a poor team and improved it in the first year. This year looks a lot like last year, but she isn't regressing. Now I don't know how each coach has been recruiting, and that's important. I'll agree that things don't look great for Whalen right now. I'll take Coach P over either of them.
