The last sentence is odd to say the least. I thought that too. I really don't understand this at all unless it's for academic reasons then more power to her. He seems to be an AAU coach...I'd assume hers from back in the day. Somebody got in her ear.

From what I can tell, he is the AAU coach for the Iowa Attack or was. Some what interesting, he also was Riley Casico Jensen's AAU coach as well. He also is part of the radio broadcast team of the lady Drake Bulldogs. This one certainly is a head scratcher. 90 minutes away from home, doesn't make sense.

Well, did anyone contact Randy Mauro? So puzzling that this was included.

If he was Riley C-J's coach I'd wonder about a transfer to Nebraska...

If he was Riley C-J's coach I'd wonder about a transfer to Nebraska... I think she's a nursing major and I know Nebraska has this one highly specialized nursing school a student applies for and has to be accepted into after their third year or so of college. It's tough to get into and if this is the case, good for her. Had a former TA who went that route so that's how I became aware of it. It would all make sense then, but still...strange with that AAU coach thing. I don't know if a person would have the time for both school and hoops in this scenario.

Mooney transferring was expected but this one is shocking. Always felt like she could've been utilized more in the offense... I wonder if she has the same feeling. Best of luck to her in the future, as long as she doesn't transfer in-conference. She didn't redshirt so I wonder if she graduated in 3 years and can grad transfer or if she'd have to sit a year She did not graduate yet, so she probably will be sitting out a year. This is very surprising. It sounds like nobody knew this was coming, including teammates. The fact that she has people contacting her AAU coach tells me that she doesn't have anything lined up yet, which is strange for the position she is in. You aren't going to have near as many teams jumping at the chance to pay you for two years to play one year as you would a grad transfer. I don't know if she thought it was going to be the feeding frenzy it was with Mooney or what. She will obviously have some options, they just might not be as plentiful as she thinks. Although I have no idea of what kind of options she expects to have, maybe she has a good idea of what the market will be for her and is fine with it. I wonder if she just forsaw a smaller role for herself next year and wanted to get out now.

I wonder if she just forsaw a smaller role for herself next year and wanted to get out now. If I had to guess, I'd say this could be a possibility. Strange to say that about a two-year starter with her shooting skills, but I haven't seen the same evolution in her all-around game that I have seen from many of the players on this team. I hope that doesn't sound like sour grapes, but after tracking stats on this team for three years, I have thought that about Jaycee before. Look at the transformation of post players Bridget, Abby and Kate. They went from solid bench posts to inside-out scoring threats that could take over a game when called upon. Jasmine went from a backup guard to defensive POY, and jack-of-all positions. Allison went from a slasher and scorer to a major facilitator, increasing her assists, steals and blocks. Duffy has gotten better at EVERYTHING and will be a major force next year. I know that stats don't tell the whole story, but aside from a high 3-PT%, I didn't see the same kind of development. I think she still would have been a major contributor, but in this system I think her minutes may have dried up a bit.

I think the strangest part of all this is that team culture with this group has always been excellent. Jaycee seemed happy to be a part of it. The players always praised their coaches, and vice-versa. The girls seem to all be team-oriented, and close friends. In a scenario like that, why would players transfer just because they might see fewer minutes in the game?
This is the part of the new transfer culture that I think is a bad thing.

I agree on odd timing for her career. Emergence of Chloe at the end of the year along with a bit of a log jam for playing time is about all I can see from the minutes perspective.

Wow. Good find. So according to this source, Bradley's parents had talked about her transferring soon after Williams left; possibly to Nebraska. There was also some talk of her wanting to transfer back in December of 2016 and March of 2017, when those posts in your link were made. She was getting tons of minutes that year on a winning team, so a transfer didn't make a lot of sense. The fact that it was even a rumor at that time is significant. Add in her declining minutes this last season and other players increasing in skill and minutes... Sounds like this was less of a sudden decision than we are assuming?

There were games where Jaycee (or others, like Allison several times) would play less than 20 minutes and then 40 minutes the next game. I've heard players weren't all that happy with this lack of communication. But I'm guessing it had something to do with this but more to do with her seeing herself with a smaller role next year.

I think that this is all about the emphasis on defense.

Congrats on her getting onto a Power-5 roster! That's a good program with a good coach. From what I have seen she is a great person that deserves to reach her goals. Since we don't really know what her reasons were for transferring, I can't comment much on how this move helps her, though. I have to think she will have a harder time getting playing time on that team, but who knows? Maybe they need a role-playing sniper in their system?
