Like basketball, only the tournament winner moves on to the NCAA’s. So how we do there determines our opportunity to move on.
But I have stated this position before and will say it again. If I was a player, winning a conference championship outweighs winning the conference tournament. USD, SDSU, NDSU....any of them is not gonna go deep in a NCAA tournament. Simply put, we aren’t good enough.
That’s why tonight’s match at home against Denver is huge. A win and we neutralize a potential road loss at Denver. For conference standings that’s big. Winning the Summit regular season title in any sport to me is bigger than winning a 3 game tournament then being eliminated in the first round of NCAA’s by a nationally ranked team. I know others feel different.
Get to the arena for tonight’s match and support these kids. We play great defense and are good enough offensively to get it done. Crowd noise and momentum will be a huge factor. Put 2000 fans that are raucous in there and our girls will play their butts off.

There is another reason to want to win the regular season; the winner gets to host the following season’s tournament. That would be a big win for USD and would showcase the SCSC.

Big upset in the league last night when ORU beat Fort Wayne on the road 3-1. I knew it was only a matter of time they were going to get a win against a good summit team.
Also Omaha stays perfect in league play by taking down UND in four sets.

Fort Wayne loses again on Sunday to NDSU. This is starting to become a trend. I think PFW isn't as good as their overall record, and NDSU and ORU are better than theirs. Also UND takes a set from Denver in a loss, which we could not do. USD unsurprisingly sweeps the Jacks.
The standings are a bit more normalized now, and accurately reflect team strength IMO:
5-0 (16-1) Denver 5-0 (10-7) Omaha 5-1 (11-7) USD 4-3 (12-10) UND 3-4 (5-13) NDSU 2-3 (5-12) ORU 2-4 (11-9) PFW 0-5 (3-15) SDSU 0-6 (1-18) WIU

Maintaining 2nd is the goal, I think. Denver will cruise to 1st even if they happen to lose one match along the way (they won't), but the top two teams get a bye in the tournament, unless they will change the format this year to 8 teams instead of 6. prior to 2013 only 4 teams made the conference tournament. since 2013 it has been a 6-team tournament with two byes.

WIU has been statistically eliminated from the playoffs.
SDSU would need a series of unfortunate events, but it's technically still possible. They would have to win all their 4 matches left, and have PFW and NDSU both lose 3 of 4.
The middle 4 teams are basically fighting for three playoff spots.
USD and Omaha are in the playoffs, but fighting for 2nd place and a bye.
Denver has clinched a share of the title, and a bye, since they only have 3 matches left, and have beaten USD and Omaha twice. One more win will clinch the title outright.
