SIU fan forum: saluki-insider.com/Looks like SIU's starting Safety is out for the game. They dropped their game last week against SEMO. The Saluki defense, especially the DL seems to be their weak point. hopefully the Yotes can get the running game going.

SIU scores a lot but they also allow a lot of points: points scored 134 points allowed 134. Their attack is equally as balanced between pass and run putting up over 500yds/game so far.
USD desperately needs to get the running game back on track. Right now they are a 1 dimensional team. That will get harder and harder to pull off as the season wears on. Balancing the offense is essential. Of course it is possible to have great success on the back of a great passing attack but with the 1-2 record I would rather see the run game fire up.

If our offense can't post a ton of points here then we are in trouble. Last year Streveler got hurt on the first drive and Simmons finished out the game. Even with a very conservative gameplan the offense put up 28 points (complemented by two pick-sixes to make a 42-0 final). Going on the road adds a whole other element, and the first two trips to Carbondale have not gone well at all, but this team needs to win and I feel they should comfortably. I don't know why we're having such trouble rushing with basically the same unit as last year. I hope this is the game where they figure that one out.

I think the running game and pass protection issues are basically due to our injuries on the O-line, and being forced to use inexperienced backups that may or may not be in the right position for their skills. Not a great recipe for a well-oiled offense. Coach basically explained that in the KWSN interview.
I don’t know the details of the injuries, but that might be something important to monitor if we are looking for answers.

Interesting tidbit, former USD punter who redshirted in 2016 Andrew Anckle is the backup punter for the Salukis

Every game from here on out is a must win. But the rest of the season can only be handled one game at a time. I believe we can beat Southern if we want it bad enough. We’ve had a week off and the guys got a few days of extra rest. I’m confident Bob will have these guys ready to play.

Another interesting tidbit, Coach Bob Nielson could get his 200th win against the same opponent as Coach Joe Glenn. Still remember that game a few years back, was really fun to watch a lot of exciting plays that changed the momentum.

I remember Iddings blocked Southerns game tying field goal to end the game. Goods stuff. 2015 was a fun season. We played a lot of teams very well. USD has played Southern 4 times in the D1 era. We are tied 2-2. Interesting that both of our wins come after USD lost the previous weekend (2017, 2015). Looking forward to the game!

I agree with teamsd: we win this game if we want it bad enough. This means mental preparation and elimination of mental mistakes during the game. I'd like to see a little FIRE in the yotes' eyes this weekend. Let's develop some swagger, some confidence, some determination!!
We should win this one. We WILL win this one! Go Coyotes!!

Sounds like Collins, Godfrey, Case, and some OL guys are healthier.
