Some Data on Sellouts (10,000+) and near-sellouts (9,000+). Coyote Fan is not here to argue the validity of a sellout in the Dome, so let's put that aside.
year---record-Season ave--sellouts------------near sellouts

Lots to take away from this:
1. The trend in overall home attendance and number of sellouts/near sellouts is up. That's a good thing, even if it has been very gradual
2. Playing ranked teams in the Dome is a factor, but not as much as you think. Lots of ranked teams have played in the dome over this span without selling out.
3. Playing teams with regional draw is a factor, but not as much as you think. The UND game never sold out in the NCC Lite years or the Great West years. The NDSU and SDSU games didn't start selling out until recently.
4. D-Days has been the biggest factor in the past, but that is starting to change as the overall attendance is increasing, as well as multiple sellouts increasing.
5. Winning is a big factor on attendance, but the effect seems to be a "delayed reaction". Look at the NCC Lite years for an example. This year might be another example.
6. This is exactly the right time for a Dome seating expansion, IMHO. If we are getting 2 or 3 sellouts a year, that is a good indicator that we might be able to fill 12K or 13K a couple of times a year. Especially with the excitement of a new expansion.
7. I don't know what the football attendance was in the 80's or 90's in the NCC, but the early 2000's wasn't very good. It went up when we were winning, but overall, D-I has been good for attendance.

Two great and interesting posts. Back in May we purchased season tickets for the first time (5 sears). I had a nice conversation with the student selling me the tickets. He told me that he has been working in the ticket office for three years. His first year they sold only a few hundred season tickets. Fast forward to this past May and they were over 2,000 season tickets sold. Obviously interest and support of Yote football is on the rise.

I bought my season tickets right after graduating in 2014, and out of curiosity I look at what's available each year when season tickets go on sale. If I was buying for the first time this year I think I would be 20 rows back if I wanted to stay in my same section on about the 35 yard line. Interest in the program has gone way up in the past 4 years, and especially in the past year or two. I used to have to drag people to the games and now have no problem finding people to join me. The trend needs to continue though! Get everyone you know and their dog in the stands.

I used to carry 4 season tickets for many years. Had young kids and my wife couldn't go to the games as much, oldest off doing his hockey thing, I was giving away more tickets than I used so I dropped down to 3. Next year I am hoping I can get the seats adjacent to me so I can kick it back up to 4 or maybe 5 season tickets. Probably won't use them immediately, and will just give a couple a game away to friends to get them in the habit of going to the game, but just want to lock them up for future years.
There was absolutely no reason for most fans to get season tickets going back to the days prior to the D1 transition as tickets were readily available. Some of us knew this day would come, and it looks like many more are figuring it out, that if you want decent seats, or maybe even a seat at all, you are going to need to lock them up by buying season tickets and establishing priority points.

Inventory will be in demand in 2019 during renovations but will increase in 2020 with lots of moving around with west side completed.

The 80's had a couple of insanely good years for attendance. They somehow packed in around 11,000 for the Troy State playoff game back in 1986. They brought in temporary bleachers to wedge in more people near the endzones. That was the loudest football game I have ever attended. It was back in the days of losing timeouts and being penalized if the opposing team couldn't hear. I believe that we lost all of our timeouts as a result.

Yep, I remember those games. The Troy game and I believe the Central State, Ohio games were noisy! The crowd refused to lose. I think if we get a playoff game in the Dome, and eventually that will happen, we'll see more of that.
Good memories. We need to make some more!

I heard the announcers on ESPN today saying that our crowd wasnt loud and just sitting in their seats on critical 3rd n 4th downs today.
I wasnt there and lost the video feed but I can't imagine that and refuse to believe it!
It was Dakota Days for jiminy cricket!!! I know these fans and am astonished the announcer could even think of saying that!!!

I watched the entire feed and never heard that comment by the announcers. They were very complimentary of the Coyote D and O units. Also had a nice segment at half with both ADs and the plans to put permanent seating on west side.

The Dome was pretty subdued yesterday, especially considering it was D-Days. People need to stand up and cheer without needing to be told to do so. When it's the 4th quarter and the defense is trying to close them out for the win you should be standing and cheering and being loud on every play, not just waiting for 3rd down.

It’s amazing how many people go to a game and it’s like they’re at church.
