Excited to get this thread started. A VERY important game for both teams. Panthers must win 5 out of their final 6 games to have a chance of making the playoffs. Yotes need the win to keep pace with NDSU for conference leader and put us in a strong position for post season qualification. Let’s go yotes!!!

This being advertised as a “blackout” game. Are we finally going to see black uniforms?! I sure hope!

This being advertised as a “blackout” game. Are we finally going to see black uniforms?! I sure hope! I do not. The black uniform fad has been very played out, and they never look good in my opinion. I feel that with this opinion that I have to disclose that I am in my late-20s and not an old-timer that hates new fangled trends.

Here are a few comments that come to my mind: 1) Defense - this unit is really beginning to galvanize. I say that cautiously, of course, because on Saturday we resembled the classic “bend, not break” mentality. However, we got the job done as a team. It seems that we have done a pretty good job all season at taking away the big play. Additionally, the goal line stand last week is something we were not capable of earlier in the season, in my opinion. 2) Offense - I think we found our bell cow in Ben Klett. I always knew he was going to be talented but he really impressed me on Saturday. We need to continue to expand on our running this weekend because we will not beat UNI if we only throw the ball - they are too experienced and savy to be beat one dimensionally. I’m more confident than I was a few weeks ago about our offensive line. We can still improve but we are doing better. We know what these wideouts can do, as long as Austin has time. 3) penalties- less penalties last week, which was great. we need to clean it up. 4) kicking - yikes. I’m not confident at all right now. If it’s not close I would say we go for it on 4th. The only thing that will help improve that situation is experience and I believe it will improve we the season goes on.

The season pivots on this game. We can't rest easy on Selection Sunday without 7 wins, maybe we sneak in with 6. Beat UNI and we're 4-2 (3-0 in MVFC) and needing to win 3 of our last 5 to get to 7 wins. It's also very relevant that UNI could be the team we're fighting for a playoff spot (along with WIU - defending home field against these two teams is absolutely crucial).
We gifted the game to UNI last year. I seem to recall that we were running out the clock for the W, but someone fumbled and UNI drove it for the winner. I swear UNI is our most consistently competitive game since we joined the MVFC. Just a brawl every time. In my mind they are as big a rival as either ND schools on the gridiron. I hate these guys and want the Yotes to embarrass them every single time. Very excited that this one is a night game. I hope that this gets the atmosphere cranked for a big game.

I am so pumped up for this one on Saturday. Making the trip with a couple former teammates and looking forward to the first night game in a long time. I haven't seen UNI play at all this year besides a few possessions at Iowa. Doesn't give me much to go off of considering Iowa manhandled them up front. Anybody have any inside info on them? I know they have a tough downhill rb and a qb that can sit in the pocket and pick you apart.

I think on paper we have the edge in reference to the match up with the Panthers. We are more athletic but they have more experienced players on a whole. The game will come down to turnovers and mistakes. We must minimize the penalties! USD will play smart football and the Yotes will win!!

I can't stand UNI. Their fans have this elitist attitude that we are somehow beneath them. Time to smack them upside the head and send them back home with a loss.

I think it stems from them being the first to bolt the old NCC back in the 70s because they seem to think they're the blueblood royalty of the MVFC. They've got a very good program, but a lot of the left behinds have caught or are catching up and I don't think they like it too much. I get that attitude even more in basketball.

I agree with both of the last posts. UNI is a strange school. Very little loyalty to the program as most of them have stronger allegiance to the Hawkeyes or Cyclones. If Iowa is playing at the same time a significant percent of the fans are face down in their phones watching the other game.
I can name another school that also has an elitist attitude about being D1 that’s much closer to Vermillion. I’m from Iowa but I’m with Yote 53, I cant stand UNI either. They feel like they should always be on top. That’s the one thing NDSU did was slap the crap out of them and made them far less significant.
Last year we stepped all over ourselves losing that game. We were by far the better team. I still think we are. If it comes down to coaching I like our chances. It’s gonna be another typical Valley slobber knocker

Does anyone know how to find UNI’s depth chart 2018?

Win this week and the path to 7 or 8 wins becomes much more realistic. Lose and it gets tricky.
