Big week this week and our thread is drifting into no mans land & the UNI board doesn't realize they play this week and all of them are about to jump off a cliff! Has anyone seen much of UNI play? They are talking that they might have 2 OL out for the game. Sorry about that - I started the tangent on the MVFC/BSC transition so I’ll eat the crow. Thanks for the history lesson guys - I learned something. ANYWAY - wow the game is already 3 days away. Go yotes !!

Panthernation is depressing to read. It's like reading a eulogy. One thing that sticks out in the doom and gloom over there is how poor of a gameday experience it is at UNI. I think that is where USD has done a great job. Tailgating grows every year and is more and more fun every season. That's a big part of the gameday atmosphere at USD games. On the field the team plays an entertaining brand of football, the Dome is a great place to watch a game because you can get so close to the action, and the gameday production gets better and better (I haven't noticed any cringeworthy moments lately).
UNI fans should come on over to Vermillion this weekend (it's just a short drive) and see what a fun atmosphere looks like.

Coming into the game UNI is 2-3 overall. The Coyotes are 3-2. UNI has been beaten at Montana and Iowa, and at home by NDSU. They beat Hampton at home and Indiana State on the road. The Coyotes lost at Weber State and Kansas State and won at home against Northern Colorado and Missouri State and on the road at Southwrn Illinois.
Statistically this is how the teams compare.
Average rushing yards per game: UNI 135 USD 115 Average passing yards per game: UNI 237 USD 320 TOTAL YARDS PER GAME: UNI 372 USD 435 Penalties/ yards per game: UNI 5-44 USD 10-85 TURNOVERS PER GAME: UNI 1.0 USD .8
Opponents averages.
Average rushing yards per game: UNI OPPONENTS 185 USD OPPONENTS 177 Average passing yards per game: UNI OPPONENTS 197 USD OPPOENENTS 245 TOTAL YARDS PER GAME: UNI OPPONENTS 382 USD OPPONENTS 422 Penalties / yards per game: UNI OPPONENTS 10-70 USD OPPONENTS 8-70 TURNOVERS PER GAME: UNI OPPONENTS 1.6 USD OPPONENTS 2.4
We have thus far won the turnover battle and favor compatibly against UNI. However UNI hasn’t turned the ball over much averaging once a game.
One glaring statistic that we have discussed at length in here is penalties. UNI appears to be a very disciplined team. Only 44 yards per game thus far. 85 yards per game for the Coyotes.
UNI has to beat us through the air. No question. Against the three formidable opponents they played this year they have averaged 70 yards on the ground. That won’t win many games.
If we can play more disciplined and force UNI into more turnovers than they’ve had up to this point, that would perhaps frustrate them and then they start pressing a little harder causing more mistakes.
We need red zone scoring efficiency. That beat us last year, hopefully not this year. I like our chances if we play our game. The defensive line in my opinion is going to be the key to the game.

Panthernation is depressing to read. It's like reading a eulogy. ... No kidding. And yet, through all of the self pity and self flagellation, nobody is predicting a loss in the Dakota Dome. Some posters have gone so far as to suggest they might lose to Indy State, Missouri State, ... but not USD. Objectively this is a toss-up game with us slightly ahead with the home field.

I noticed that too. It's that UNI arrogance I was referring to earlier this thread. They just cannot comprehend losing to USD.

I haven't been over to their board since 2013. I went to discuss the upcoming game, and was relentlessly crapped on for even thinking it could be a game. When we won in OT I think I went back to say it couldn't have happened to a more deserving group of fans. I also might have just flipped the bird after reveling in their anguish. Glad to hear they haven't changed in 5 years.

One thing for sure, part of the football fans problems over their is their empahsis on basketball. Football has kind of been pushed out as far as top priorities go. They are a basketball school a lot like UND is a hockey school. Same with SCSU, Mankato and UMD. It is a eulogy, at least for now. It will be a whale of a game if they come in focused and ready to play. We are getting to that point in the season where some promising teams are going to pack it in because it isnt working out.
If thats the case Saturday the Yotes could roll big. Route potential is all USD.

Will be bringing a group of 5 over on Saturday. We plan on tailgating with a couple of USD fans when we get there. I read that USD has a 4 hour before gametime policy for tailgating, Do they enforce that or are we good to tailgate when we get there at about noon.

I've gone more than 4 hours early before. There's about zero rules or enforcement at the tailgate, aside from the student section maybe. Hope you enjoy the trip.

I'm guessing it will be going pretty good by 10 or 11

Feel free to stop over at our tailgate where the BIG RED BUS is in the northeast corner of parking lot on east side of the Dome. We’re having a roast hog

Wow, this board has gone silent. I’m hoping it’s because everyone is working and making money. Lol
I’m really excited to see how this plays out. I think it’s going to be one heck of a game. Two very evenly matched teams? I don’t know but will by Saturday night around 9:15 pm.
