I don't need to repeat what has already ben said. Just disappointed in the outcome because I thought we had a better team than what we have seen so far this season. Hopefully we can get things turned around.

I don't understand why everyone is blaming the o line for everything. Yes they are not as good as last year but they don't fumble the ball or throw interceptions or drop a kick off. How about throw the ball away or don't hold it for ever on a screen. Protect the ball when running with it. Also the running backs need to go north and south. Stop trying to juke the defenders just take 3 or 4 yards and don't worry about getting 30. We beat the crapy teams and everyone goes crazy about how great we are. We are what we are period. I have said it a million times and get ripped all the time it starts with the qb. He will never beat a good team. He freaks out and makes mistakes but everyone blames others for his mistakes. They will lose to ndsu and sdsu. They will win 2 of the other 3 games remaining. It easy to see at all level how a game is won or lost by the OL. The QB can't make many plays running for his life and the RB's can run when they have several defenders on them at the LOS or in the backfield. There are several reasons problems on offense start with the OL, just focusing on this game. UNI routinely only rushed three guys and got pressure most of the time. When we tried to pass, this caused the QB to have to move out of the pocket and try to make a play and frequently was still getting hit. Simmons doesn't run as much as Streveler so he tries to make plays with his cannon of an arm. Also, this allows 8 defensive guys to cover max 5 receivers which makes it difficult to find an open receiver. With only 3 DL we should be able to get big chunks of rushing yards but we didn't because the OL wasn't creating holes for the RB. Since 5 OL couldn't block 3 DL, we didn't have OL to get up to the LB level and block. It is disappointing the OL seems to have regressed this year since four of the starters are back from last year. I would put a good chunk of that on the coach. I think O'Boyle's coaching and discipline is missed more than we initially realized it would be. I absolutely think Simmons is the right guy for right now. This offense needs a QB that can throw the ball and can run a little bit but it can't be done without a good OL. Streveler improved a ton between his junior and senior year as a complete QB so to compare Strevelers senior year to Simmons jr year isn't realistic. Streveler's junior year he had 1,947 yds passing with 22 TD's and 60.1% completion percent in 10 games. In Simmons junior year he has 1,924 yds passing with 12 td and 61.4% completion in 6 games. So Simmons is way ahead of the pace in yds and on pace for TD's. The big difference is rushing where Streveler had 950 yds rushing but had 127 yds lost due to sacks his junior yr where Simmons has 223 yds rushing but has lost 171 yds rushing due to sacks in six games. Everyone knew that Simmons wouldn't run as much as Streveler so more pressure would be on the OL to keep Simmons upright. Simmons is plenty mobile and avoids a lot of pressure but its on the OL to improve and allow Simmons to keep getting the ball to our stud receivers and open holes for our good stable of RB's.

Finally back home after the long trip. Unfortunately the weather outside (17 degrees and snow) reflects my mood after the game.
Just a few thoughts, in part because I can see only areas where improvement is needed and that is in all phases of the game.
QB: had little protection but needed to run a few more times; was off target in a few crucial instances; did better in "garbage time" than when the game was in the balance.
Line play: out played
Special teams: our FG kicker did well (hey, a positive here!)
Team intensity: lacking; not much fire in those Yotes.
Coaching: line play not making much progress; not sure we are coaching these players up.
Blah, blah, blah
In other words, it was really a blah game that I will do my best to forget. I hope though, that the coaches and players do NOT forget! This game could be fodder for improvement but it will take a lot of work. We were out ______ ed (fill in the blank) by our opponent. I was impressed by their play and unimpressed by ours - except for a few very spectacular ones.
One positive was the crowd. I think they (we) did a good job cheering the team on. I feel it was the team that let us down. Time to turn things around and get to work being the best they can be. The road to improvement seems a bit longer now.

I am going to give Simmons the benefit of the doubt. Pretty tough for him when he has zero ground game to rely on. If you can't run the ball at home facing a 5-6 man box, you are not going to win conference games. Period.
I think its our run scheme as much as anything. We need to go back to the basics here...some of these power runs we try out of the pistol are so slow developing that our RB's stand zero chance. We have 2 guys pulling on some of these runs and a rb starting 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage..I dont get it.
Just my general observation on some of these plays.

I thought Simmons moved around in the pocket pretty well. He barely got to a One-Missis.... count and he was having to move and shift and reset his feet on every pass play. Dude wasn't even under center, going out of a pistol or shotgun, and didn't even have time to set his feet. Imagine if he had to take a 5 or 7 step drop coming from under center and how ugly that would have looked. I can't understand why he would take any heat here after the game. Yeah, he had a couple of turnovers. Forced turnovers by the UNI defense as they applied constant pressure on our QB and their defense made big plays as a result.
UNI was playing 3 deep safeties over the top and dropping a total of 8 guys into coverage - rushing 3 almost the entire second half, and getting pressure, and shutting down the run. You aren't going to win games if you can't control the LOS when they are only bringing 3, period. The fact we were still completing passes at the rate we were was pretty incredible. I remember saying to myself multiple times, "Wow, nice throw" or "How did he catch that?". So yeah, this team has some serious talent and some serious weapons but those do you no good when you can't control the LOS.
Defensively, we got put in bad positions with some bad turnovers in our end that directly resulted in 21 points...in a 14 point loss. My only beefs on the defensive side are not enough pressure on their QB, not forcing turnovers that we desperately needed to turn the tide in that game, and not holding them to 3 points in one or two of those quick change situations. Overall though, the defense played average, good enough to win if the offense is clicking and playing a clean game, but that wasn't happening so the D had to do more and wasn't able to.

So a MVFC ref crew blew a call? Shocking I tell you. Worst officials around. Still not the reason we lost that game but it certainly didn't make things easier.

Your right he didn't the o line didn't also. But why is it the o lines fault we lost and not his? Did they throw the int? Did they fumble? Did they fumble the kickoff? So I am inept how? Did I make this up? He was responsible for 14 of unis points what was the final score? Simmons had less than a second to react on the fumble. He got the snap and had to run for his life. The blocking was horrible. You're crazy if you think that's all on the QB... it was A screen that they run all the time it is catch and throw not catch hold and throw. What game you watching

You are an idiot. You keep drinking your kool aid. The only reason I responded is because of idiots like yourself blaming others. So kiss my ass. What do you wanna hear from me? That I think he sucks? Never said that and never will. So stop the bs. You don't know fb not me moron. Go ahead and cry about my post and say I know nothing but I do know this when idiots like you at the beginning of the year were saying 9 10 wins I was saying 3 4 wins and it looks like I will be close. So chug it down and think what you want but the facts are the facts. Come on here after beating a crapy team and drink the cool aid no thanks. BEAT A REAL TEAM AND SHUT MY MOUTH. Don't know who you are and don't care. I don't blame any one player...win as a team, lose as a team. And yes, you've been nothing but all over him since you've been on here. One thing I would never do is to call out some player individually. Those kids work too hard and put too much time into it for any fan to questions their efforts or abilities. I never predicted 9 or 10 wins, actually I never predicted anything win or loss wise and I did think we'd be better then we've shown, but I'll continue to support USD in all sports long after you're gone and I still hope for the best this season. I did, and do still think we'll win more than 3 or 4. Are you going to be happy if you're right? What's your football expertise besides being a nightmare parent? I really feel sorry for you. You must be leading an absolutely miserable existence to be so hostile and filled with anger. It must be true what I've heard about you from sources. I do know who you are and I the whole scenario makes me ill. Sorry but you do call out people. The o line are players so there you go. Just because qb is a 1 person position I can't say anything your nuts. Go see a doctor if your ill. Stop the bitching.

Losing brings out the worst in everyone. Saturday night just wasn’t a good night. We’ve got some issues I didn’t think we had, but saying that, as bad as we played with all the crappy breaks we had, we still were in it. Not scoring TDs twice in the red zone early hurt. All of a sudden thoughts from last year jumped into my mind. My opinion is if we played 10 times it would go 5-5.
The mistakes simply must stop. We finally cut back on penalties then we turned the ball over which has been uncharacteristic for our team this year. No use looking up a dead horses rear. Time to move on. If we are fortunate enough to get the win Saturday at Youngstown then we still are 3-1 in the league with the only undefeated team coming to our house. College football is a crazy game. I said this after Weber State, confidence is huge. Our confidence got rocked again. Maybe we aren’t there yet, but I for one am not throwing in the towel. To many goofy things can happen.
I’m not certain if we’re better than last year or not, but I do think the one quality missing is I’m just not seeing those 2 or 3 guys stepping up and being leaders. Someone has to be that person. No quality team exists without good leadership.
Lastly, can we as fans be civil to one another? No one in here likes losing. As someone said in a prior post, make your point with facts or observations and if someone wants to debate it, fine. But name calling and stone throwing is beneath us.

Confirmed that Phillip Powell is out for the season, tough loss. This guy has a knack for the ball, and will be the main guy to take over for the loss of Andrew Gray to graduation next season.
When is Armstead expected back?

Maybe someday your incoherent, poorly written rants will make some semblance of sense. can you please explain to me what you are talking about? Make sense? Ok i wll break it down for you. You said "I don't blame any one player" but you do "I've really been disappointed in the offensive line" that is blaming players. So my rant was you blame people but call me out when I do. I will respond to any of your comments when I feel you are wrong. Unfortunately its all the time. I have an idea dont respond to my comments and I won't respond to yours. Because as I said before I am not drinking the kool aid that you are. Remember you made it personal.
