On to Youngstown. Time to move on from UNI. Pivotal game for both teams. YSU sits at 2-4 and USD 3-3. Must win for each team.
Weather looks sketchy, chance of a rain/snow mix and 10-15 mph winds. YSU not putting up many points, and we’re struggling to run the ball and execute red zone opportunities.

A character test for our young team. I trust in our coaches and our boys to deliver and get the win in Youngstown.

We have to win this one to stay in the driver's seat for a playoff berth. Lose and it's basically backs against the wall the rest of the season. I'm hoping Pelini's team has a lot of quit in them after some discouraging performances.

I looked to see if the attendance is dropping at the "ice castle", but at least to this point in the season they have maintained above 14K. Their stadium is massive for FCS at 20,000, but 14,000 should feel full enough. The main grandstand is big, with a smaller one added in 1997 on the opposite side. Should be a tough crowd. 5:00 game here is 6:00 eastern there, so a night game atmosphere. Also the stadium looks pretty "wide open" to the wind: This will be a true road test for the team with rain/snow or wind. Perfect opportunity to prove all the naysayers wrong.

If the OL is having difficulty holding a rush maybe some bootlegs would be a decent option going forward. Get Simmons under center if need be.

I've heard that "ice castle" moniker before. When you think cold, do you think Northeast Ohio? It's not a tropical environment but come on.
I don't care how much quit the fans have in them. UNI fans are the most depressing bunch I've seen online and it didn't help us on Saturday. Chalk that up to another fanbase that is far beyond the glory days with no hopes of returning.

Maybe beyond the glory years for YSU and UNI, but still can and probably will be forces going forward in the MVFC.

I think the smaller side is closed for some reconstruction this season so there's only seating on the one side. Guess we'll find out for sure this Saturday.

Seeing as how Youngstown is to the north of Pittsburgh between that city and Cleveland, not to mention Lake Erie is nearby. Yeah, it gets cold there. Not Dakota high plains cold, but cold enough. Those Great Lakes have a way of making it feel really cold. Massive heat sink.

This discussion about the reason Stambaugh is called the "Ice Palace" is tongue-in-cheek, isn't it? You know the real reason it's called the Ice Palace is not due to weather conditions in Youngstown (although there have been a number games in the place at which the weather justified the name).

Technically it’s “Ice Castle”. I only bring that up because of your history of corrections on this board. 😉 Yes, we know their mascot is a penguin, but that doesn’t preclude the possibility of a dual meaning of the stadium’s nickname, does it? That wasn’t really the point, though. My post was simply giving information on the upcoming game. I was surprised how well attended their home games have been, given the misery and self pity displayed on their board. A backhanded compliment, if you will. It is a challenging venue, though, regardless of weather.

...No clue. Are you just going to keep us hanging? I didn't want to hang around. Just a quick visit to see what was being said about your upcoming game at YSU. Anyway, I figured many would know -- flagshipu got it. Yotes doesn't like the YSU mascot but they deserve some credit for the unique mascot. I don't think there's another "Penguins" -- at least not in Division I. Sorry, kiyoat, my reference to Ice Palace was supposed to inject some humor but it missed the mark badly (my defective humor button ... not a problem with the readers). So I'll claim a "never mind" on that one!
