Big opening game for the Yotes! I think the video feed is subscription-only, but the audio and stats are not.

Massey has us with a 26% chance of winning. Massey also has a typical score of 62-71 (9-point loss). I really don't know what to expect. Opening games sometimes produce unpredictable results. Third year in Dawn's successful system, lots of returning starters and an experienced bench tells me we could possibly tear things up today. Too many mitigating factors, though. Being on the road with a team that actually has fans gives me a little pause, but our girls are conditioned to tune that out in Brookings and the SLT. Creighton is a great team. They were picked 4th preseason in the Big East (a Power-6 conference in WBB). Both teams have had two closed scrimmages, including @ Power 5 teams to warm up for their debuts. Here's a recent article on the Jays: www.omaha.com/creighton/womens-basketball/creighton-women-s-basketball-could-lean-on-newcomers-to-keep/article_506194ab-0159-5b6f-a2d6-6a776f1ece64.htmlIt suggests that 3 of their 5 experienced players might be out with injury, forcing freshmen and transfers into action. Also they run a type of motion offense that new players might not be as good at running. That could be a recipe for turnovers? Our defense knows motion offense. Sounds like they have been a good scoring offense and 3-PT shooting team last year.

When I first saw our schedule, I chalked this up as an early-season loss. Now that I think about it, I don't see them stumbling. They could just pick up where they left off. I'll predict that our aggressive defense and deep bench wears down their younger players, and we outlast them in the 4rth Q. If we are having a good shooting day, we bury them. If not, it will be close. We didn't defend the 3 as well as other aspects last year, so Creighton could keep up if they get hot from the arc. Yotes win 68-65 Anyone else have a spicy take? (I'm stealing that line, yotes )

Who did the Yotes have their closed scrimmages with? Creighton played @ Iowa earlier this week. I don't know where the Yotes have played.

Prediction: Creighton 68 USD 60. Although we have three returning starters, I'm very concerned about the bench. Maybe not Lamb but everyone else and especially defensively. I hope I'm wrong, but losing your best defender, and three primary contributors, and then starting the year away against a NCAA tourney team will be tough. If we do win, expect Duffy or Lamb to have big games, at least that's my prediction.

Oddly enough the last three games in the series were in Vermillion (all wins), unusual for a Summit team to host a Big East team like that - but of course the WNIT is the reason for 2 of those games.

Kudos to Taylor Frederick on obviously putting in some serious work on her game this offseason. Looks like a completely different player on the offensive end.

40-30 at the half! TayFred shooting 5-for-5 from the floor. Yotes are 50% from the arc.

I didn't get to watch any of this game (streaming platform that Creighton and USD use won't work on any browser for me, which is outraging)...
Frederick scored 26 points?! Her career high was 18, and that was against Bellevue. Did not see that one coming.
We have owned Creighton recently, 4-0 over the past 5 years.

What a win! Frederick went from by far the worst shooter on the team last year from a percentage basis to looking like our best shooter. While I'm not sure that she's our best shooter, if she can shoot even close to that, we'll be tough to beat.
