Tricky start that had me very afraid, but boy did we get it rolling after that. What a performance.

Last night a great horned owl in our backyard was going "who, who....who-who-who". Then, awhile later a pack of animals were howling at the moon. Who was it? The COYOTES, of course!
Go Coyotes!! Nice win.

What are everyone's thoughts? I missed the entire game, aside from the first 6 minutes or so where I thought we were going to give the game away.
Massive game at UNI next week.

Very good game by the O line both run and pass blocking!! Great game by Austin also and the D line!! One area we need to clean up is dumb personal fouls and we had 4 or 5--in a close game they can be a major problem.
Overall great TEAM ROAD WIN!!! GO YOTES!!!

Had a chance to watch the replay this morning. Here are some thoughts that crossed my mind while watching.
Yesterday I was only able to watch up through the MSU touchdown, and I was ready for another collapse on the road like we've seen too many times before. I was shocked when I went back to check the score later and saw a 31-7 lead. Everyone kept their heads up and wouldn't let early adversity get them down.
It is very nice to see us bottle up the run game, beat up their QB, and have defenders all over their receivers. Missouri State got 64 rushing yards on the day. It's going to take something special to lose a game when you completely shut the run down like that. I couldn't be happier with the improvements we have seen on defense. These guys understand their roles and are shining. I really took notice of Starling and can't help but feel he is going to be something special here.
MSU was making some big mistakes with the ball. They basically gave away those first three turnovers. There was a botched snap, a dropped pass that went straight to a defender, and then an interception that was thrown right to a wide open Jack Cochrane. That's at least a 21 point swing handed to us.
Simmons has always shown a strong arm over the years but he is really coming into his own this senior season. Accuracy and game management have looked much better than what we've seen in the past.
The offensive line is so much better than I expected it to be this year. They made a gap so big for Klett's long run that you could have driven a truck through it. Jensen left during the 3rd quarter and didn't come back. I really hope he is alright. I've really enjoyed watching him this year and love his story.
I thought Brooks looked good running the ball. Klett keeps looking good in his limited action. Gibbs has a serious motor that I'd like to see more of. Henry had another good day, but it's easy to forget because I wish he would just shut up and play.
Lorber nailed his attempt again. It was a 38-yard attempt and again looked like it would be good from much longer. He has improved a lot since the start of last season.
Big game against UNI coming next. Win that one and this team is officially on a roll with a chance to make a real run in conference play.

Long drive but worth it after the great result! I understand that this was a holiday weekend for MSU, but the attendance there was abysmal. The official attendance was listed at over 5000, but my guess is it was closer to 3000 tops. After the rocky start, we looked dominant most of the game. I have been critical of the defense early in the season, but I am turning into a believer. Clearly Coach Johansen has adjusted to the talent level and teams at the D1 level. To be fair, we have not seen a strong passing team with talented receivers since Houston Baptist, but hopefully our adjustments and familiarity with this defence will help us against stronger throwing teams in the future. The front 7 is becoming very formidable and should be a problem for the rest of the MVFC when they face us. Offensively, the Hippos continue to get better and are really opening up the running game. Our balance with the run and the pass stands out with these past two wins and I hope we continue to keep that balance. Just me, but I love when we go to a 2 RB formation. Nothing better that watching a lead RB de-clete an unsuspecting LB!! Like Yotes stated we need a few players to just shut up and let their play speak for them. We also need the coaches to address the poor penalties we continue to get, they could really hurt us against some good teams we might be able to sneak up on and beat. When looking at the rest of the schedule, if we can go 4-2 I think we can get ourselves into the playoffs.

It’s entirely possible we don’t play another team who can sling it like HBU did.

It’s entirely possible we don’t play another team who can sling it like HBU did. Per Sam Herder @ Hero: Names that come to mind that should be front-runners for the Walter Payton Award are (in no particular order): Bailey Zappe, Case Cookus, Dalton Sneed, Eric Barriere, Trey Lance, Jah-Maine Martin and Justin Covington. Unfortunately, we already faced 2 of those QB's. But the adjustments/learnings from those games have been very evident the past few games.

Surprised that Simmons is not on this list. I just finished watching the replay of Texas v. Oklahoma from Saturday which ended with Oklahoma, now 6-0, winning 34-27. Texas QB Sam Ehlinger was 26/38 for 210 yards and 0 TDs in 4 full quarters of work. He also remarkably had 2 touchdowns on 23 carries for -9 yards or an average of-.4 yards per carry. Against Oklahoma Simmons was 25/34 for 244 yards and 2 tds, but had 2 ints. He also had 7 carriers for 28 yards with a long of 19. This was in a little over 3 quarters of work if I remember correctly before Tsagalis got a few reps. Since Oklahoma, all Simmons has done is climb the ranks in the USD and FCS record books and put up numbers that should out him in the conversation.
