(WBB) ORU beats North Dakota, and Western beats Denver. The Conference's second tier is cannibalizing each other. That will create some separation for USD and SDSU, and I'm fine with that.
Any of those four can be dangerous when they are having a hot shooting night.

I think ORU is probably the 3rd best team there the best defensive team of the group. Then WIU we’ve battled injuries to start the conference season which has let others step up even though Annabel is probably out the rest of the season. Then Denver but Nelson and Loven better be better than they were last night. They have a couple of really good freshman. UND hasn’t really beaten anyone I think them and Omaha will battle for this spot.

I thought ORU should have been the #3 team at the start of the season, but without Mayberry I think they have struggled a bit. They might be figuring things out now.

I actually think UND could be more around that 3-4 spot. But it is really hard to place them, so I’m gonna hold off on judging their progress until after they play SDSU this week. The posters on their board use the SD schools as their benchmark, so if they can keep pace with the bunnies in frost they may be able to claim that 3 or 4.

If this year proves anything it is that SDSU is never going to have a down year. Everything pointed to the Coyotes being the better team but so far I am not so sure that is the case. If the Jacks win in Vermillion they will end the year the better team. The Coyotes have to win that game if they are to save any semblance of a good Summit League season and an upper hand on the Jacks which is rarely the case in the standings.

WIU was killing ORU through 3 quarters and let them make it more respectable at the end.

UND tried to turn the game into a track meet, and it worked for about a quarter and a half. After that State hung 99 on them, and blew them out. Definitely some separation between the SD schools and the rest, IMHO.

They just gave NDSU their first summit win 92-82, while NDSU has made progress that loss wasn’t a good one.

It's beginning to become somewhat clear that outside the two South Dakota schools the Summit just isn't very good this season. I don't see another team competing with either. I thought a few of the teams would be better than they've shown...I'm looking at you Denver and ORU. Now as soon as I say that someone will pull an upset.

The idea that the only games that matter are the 3 in Sioux Falls does not apply to the Yotes WBB. Barring a rash of injuries, the SLT is for seeding, not just to get in. There. I said it.

You're spot on that it doesn't apply to women's hoops, but on the men's side the only three that matter are in Sioux Falls come March. I'm not certain that seeding is even that important; just qualifying is what matters. Nothing in conference can be considered a major upset as it seems just about anyone can beat just about anybody. It's going to be a wild men's bracket. Who would anyone rank as the favorite thus far?

Summit WBB Standings:South Dakota-------6-0 Won 6 South Dakota State6-1 Lost 1 Western Illinois-----4-2 Won 3North Dakota-------3-3 Lost 3Oral Roberts--------3-3 Lost 1 Denver--------------2-4 Won 1 Omaha--------------1-4 Lost 3 North Dakota State 1-4 Won 1 Purdue Fort Wayne 0-5 Lost 6 don't look now, but Western and North Dakota are trending in opposite directions. Looks like the Leathernecks have quietly been positioning themselves as the top of tier II. I'm glad we have already played them in Macomb. The Jacks might need to be on upset alert when they travel out there? Maybe leatherneckcountry could fill us in on if they have been doing anything differently lately. I'm not sure what is going on with ORU and Denver, but they have been underwhelming lately. This season could actually represent a huge opportunity for the Bison and Mavs to show some progress in their programs's turnaround projects. Will they be able to take advantage?

Summit Men's BB Standings:
North Dakota State-4-1 Won 2 South Dakota State-5-2 Lost 1 Oral Roberts---------4-2 Won 4 Omaha---------------3-2 Lost 2 South Dakota--------3-3 Won 1 Purdue Fort Wayne--2-3 Lost 2 North Dakota--------2-4 Lost 4 Western Illinois------2-4 Lost 1 Denver---------------1-5 Won 1
NDSU at the top, and Denver at the bottom are the only easy inferences we can make at this juncture. Nobody should feel safe or hopeless yet. Wide open. ORU and UND are trending in opposite directions.

This season could actually represent a huge opportunity for the Bison and Mavs to show some progress in their programs's turnaround projects. Will they be able to take advantage? we are quite an interesting team because we only lost one player from last year yet we have several players who are now getting time this year. Sam Pryor redshirted last year and she is now a redshirt junior but this is her 1st year of getting big minutes and she hit a couple big shots that probably won the Denver game. Then we have Carla Flores who redshirted last year as well and she has been starting since Annabel went down in the game against the yotes and honestly when she went down I thought we might be done. Carla is the best perimeter defender we have had in a long time Denver went 6-21 and ORU went 5-21 from three so we did a pretty good job on there shooters. Nelson and Loven combined for 12 points and there not beating any one with those kind of #s from those 2. Then we have Evan Zars who transferred from SLU who was eligible to play right away and that was huge it’s always nice having a big who can play in the middle of the zone. We have played both Denver and ORU at home and ORU we played after they traveled through the Midwest in the second game in 3 days with brutal weather. If we can beat at least one of them on the road then I’ll say that there’s a very good chance we can get that 3 seed we play at Omaha on Thursday and that game scares the heck out of me.

I realize it's road game so it's never a given, but I just don't see how you don't handle Omaha. You just have a better team and have a great chance to wind up with a top three seed.
