The Coyote Volleyball team have a tough week ahead with an away game at Omaha and a home game against Denver.
Omaha (6-4 in the Summit)
Offensively, they have two of the top hitters in the league with Isabelle Sade and Sadie Limback. The blockers and back row players will have their hands full. Their setter is sitting 2nd in the league in assists per set
Defensively, Claire Mountjoy is there version of Anne Rasmussen for us sitting 3rd in the league in digs per set. Overall their defense is in the top half in the summit.
If you remember it was this same Omaha team that took the Yotes to five set in Vermillion.
The Yotes need to keep doing what their are doing, play stellar defense, distribute the ball around to keep the Mavericks guessing and limit the hitting and service errors and I like the Lady Yotes's chances in this one.
Denver (8-2 in the Summit)
Typically, I would lay out the offense and defense, but Denver doesn't have many individual players in the top 5 in the categories, all they do is find a way on any given night to beat their opponent. They are much like the Yotes in that respect. USD found a way to beat Denver in Denver earlier in the season and that was a big morale booster for the Yotes. USD will need to be laser focused for this one and they will need a big crowd to fire them up to come out with a victory.
Summary: I am confident Coach Williamson will have the team focused using a 1-0 Today Mentality. They should make shirts with the slogan... "Find A Way for 1-0 Today"

I think there are a good number of Yote fans in the Omaha metro area. I remember many of them attending Baxter for the men's and women's basketball games (and the NCAA volleyball match vs. Creighton). Hopefully some of them will come out to the match Friday. This will be a truly critical weekend for the Yotes. Win both matches, and it will be nearly impossible to catch them.

When you're the top dog in the conference every game is a big game. Nice problem to have.

Sadie Limback has been outstanding for the Mavs this year. Especially the last few weeks. She is designated as a Right-Side hitter, which typically means the hitter is left-handed (she is). Here is her (conference play only) stats: #10 Sadie Limback - 6'-0" Soph RS 4.00 Kills/set (#2 SL) .337 Hitting % (#7 SL) 4.5 Points/set (#2 SL)

Looking at Conference-only stats, the Yotes and Mavs are pretty evenly matched. both teams are in the top-3 in most offensive stats, with the Mavs having an edge. USD has a clear advantage in defense, especially blocking. Both teams are top-3 in service aces/set.
Individually (overall stats),the Yotes and Mavs have: 4 of the top 5 in Kills/set (Juhnke, Sade, Limback, Slaughter) And 4 of the top 6 in points/set (same four) and 6 of the top 13 in hitting % (Blaschko, Wieidenfeld, Harms, Slaughter, Limback, Loschen)
So some deep and talented front-rows.
We will also be seeing the two best setters in the league statistically (Jurgens, Clarkson)
And 3 of the top-5 servers (Weideman, Sade, Jurgens)
And 2 of the top-3 Liberos (Rasmussen, Mountjoy)
And 4 of the top-6 Blockers (Harms, Wiedenfeld, Gerdes, Marshall)
Lots of Summit stars in this match.

I'll predict a 3-1 Yote victory, with the early sets very competitive, until they take control in the last set.

I'll predict a 3-1 Yote victory, with the early sets very competitive, until they take control in the last set. It went 5 sets in the SCSC the last time they played... I lost the ends of all my fingernails that day. The Mavs make me nervous.

I lost the ends of all my fingernails that day. The Mavs make me nervous. No doubt. Leanne’s comments in the net report sounded like the Mavs came in with a good game plan. Scouted is well. Probably well-coached, which is interesting with a first year coach. We will be better prepared this time, I think.

In my opinion this weekend has 2 of the 3 toughest conference matches for the Yotes. We have already played the toughest match, that being the 5 set W in Denver. Friday at Omaha and Sunday hosting Denver are 2A & 2B.
I was impressed with Omaha when I watched the match in the SCSC. I am not a great judge of volleyball talent, but I was impressed with the way the Mavs competed. Omaha, like USD, offers free streams of all home events. I definitely plan to watch. Omaha brought a decent crowd when they played at the SCSC. Hopefully a good number of the Coyote faithful, especially a rowdy group of Coyote Crazies, make the trip to Omaha.
Denver is Denver. I get the sense that there isn't a whole lot of love lost between the 2 teams and they will both have a little extra juice for this match. I plan on bringing a car load with me to the SCSC.
Huge weekend. Lets get 2 W's.

Tonight's win over Omaha sets up the biggest home match of the year this Sunday at Noon vs Denver. BE THERE and bring a car / van / pickup / bus full of friends. This team is fun to watch and Sunday's match vs the Pioneers will be intense.
