I was surprised that they jumped on this so quickly. www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/27957981/ncaa-votes-allow-athletes-profit-likenessThe NCAA's top decision-makers voted unanimously Tuesday to allow college athletes to profit from their name, image and likeness "in a manner consistent with the collegiate model." The board directed the three separate divisions of college sports to immediately begin figuring out how to update their rules in a way that maintains a distinction between college and professional sports. The board members said in a release Tuesday that all changes should make sure student-athletes have the same opportunities to make money as all other students, maintain the priorities of education and the collegiate experience, and ensure that rules are "transparent, focused and enforceable" and do not create a competitive imbalance. The board wants each division to implement new rules by January 2021.

Wow. I did not expect that. While I think this will probably curtail a lot of the dirty money changing hands between programs, shoe companies and recruits (by legalizing it), I wonder if USD and other mid-majors will be affected negatively or positively?
High-profile programs, like Nebraska Football might get an unfair boost based on business-owning fans lining up to offer endorsements to high-profile recruits. I suppose stuff like that happens all the time anyway, just under the table. Instead of a facilities war, it will turn into an endorsements war. Sanford could be a huge ally for the Dakota programs. Who knows what will happen?
This might be something that affects coaching salaries and athletic funding in general.

Does this mean I will finally get to retire my copy of NCAA 2012 for the Playstation 3?

Does this mean I will finally get to retire my copy of NCAA 2012 for the Playstation 3? EA Sports had a statement today that they want to pursue it again. Like, mere hours after the announcement. They want it. Fans want it. Players want it. I’m sure there will be some unintended negative aspects of this,... but I’m having a hard time thinking of any.
