I'm honestly having a hard time focusing on any one sport or game right now. There is just so much going on in the athletic department with the Fall/winter overlap.
Thursday @ 7PM: WBB vs Missouri Friday @ ----4PM: (SLVB Tournament) Omaha vs NDSU Friday @---- 8PM: MBB @ Arkansas Saturday @ -2PM: Football vs SDSU Saturday @ -4PM: (SLVB Tournament) USD vs (UNO/NDSU) Sunday @ ---3PM: (SLVB Tournament) USD vs Denver? Monday @ ---7PM: WBB vs Missouri State
I mean, its not like I have kids in sports tournaments/school play/ this week, home purchase inspections, and trying to stay employed....
I'm going to have to miss even WATCHING some of these impactful games, forget attending them. For those of you who WILL be attending them, God bless you. My wife is going to be very annoyed with me checking my phone for scores all weekend, but it is what it is.
Anyway, about Missouri...

Looking at the SEC preseason poll, Missouri was picked #9 of the 14 teams. If they finish 9th, that would be the lowest in six years. Also, no Mizzou players received preseason all-conference picks.
Here is their season so far, with team rankings from Massey:
W 97-89(OT) vs #168 Western Illinois L 85-90(OT) vs #35 Nebraska L 73-78 ----vs #43 Northern Iowa L 64-72 -----@ #60 Green Bay
That's a challenging non-con so far.

Massey has us winning this game 71-68.
I think that's probably close to accurate. Maybe more like 75-68.

Fun OT facts: both USD and Mizzou have already had two games that went to Overtime this season.
Coach Dawn- is 4-2 in OT games with the Yotes, and a perfect 3-0 at home. Coach Amy was 3-2 in OT games with the Yotes, and a perfect 2-0 at home. Coach Ryun was 3-1 in OT games with the Yotes, and a perfect 1-0 at home.
So total in D-1: 10-5 and 6-0 at home. Wow. Nice home-court advantage.
Also, we are 2-1 vs SDSU, 2-1 vs Drake and 1-1 vs NDSU in OT games in D1 play.

They graduated WNBA level talent, Sophie Cunningham. However, they still have a good deal of size and experience in their starters: #23 Amber Smith - 5-11 Senior Guard19.5 ppg / 11.0 rpg / 2 asst / 1 stl 42/35/72 shooting Amber was already a team leader last year with Sophie, and now she leads the team in points and rebounds. Averaging a double-double. Seems like she might be playing "small forward" role. She shoots OK, but the other starters are really hitting at a high efficiency... #22 Jordan Roundtree - 5-9 Senior Guard12.8 ppg / 4.5 rpg 58/60/94 shootingAppears to be the primary "shooting guard" and is hitting shots at a high level. Second leading scorer #13 Hannah Schuchts - 6-2 R/Senior Forward 10.3 ppg / 8.3 rpg / 2 blocks56/67/83 shootingSo this is interesting. A big forward that can and will shoot from the arc at a high %. I remember coach Pingeton last year heaping praise on our "positionless" system, saying that there are a lot of teams that talk about it but few that actually do it well. She also has talked about her team working towards that style of play. Looks like she might have many of the pieces in place for just that. It makes me a little apprehensive for this game. Could be a shootout. Other starters: #43 Hayley Frank - 6-1 Freshman Forward - 10.8 ppg / 1.3 steals / 41/42/93 shooting#24 Jordan Chavis - 5-7 Senior Point Guard - 8.0 ppg / 4 assist / 2.25 Asst/TO ratio / 38/38/100 shooting

Missouri appears to have some really good offensive stats, so I wanted to compare with USD's. We have both played four quality teams, so I think the comparison is fair.
79.8 ppg MU 83.0 ppg USD
41.4/ 38.0/ 75.8 shooting MU 47.3/ 35.4/ 75.3 shooting USD
14.3/ 16.5/ 0.87 Asst/TO/ATO MU 16.3/ 15.5/ 1.05 Asst/TO/ATO USD
Our offense is slightly more efficient in scoring and inside the arc. They have been hitting better outside. Both offenses look pretty formidable.

MU is a combined 38-100 for 9.5 3-pointers a game USD is a combined 35-99 for 8.75 3-pointers a game
very very similar. Yikes. This will be another big test of our perimeter defense.

Let's look at defenses.
82.3 ppg allowed MU 77.8 ppg allowed USD
42.8/ 33.6 allowed shooting MU 44.3/ 35.6 allowed shooting USD
14.25/ 7.8/ 3.0 Forced TO/ Steals/ Blocks MU 14.75/ 7.5/ 4.8 Forced TO/ Steals/ Blocks USD
Again, very similar. We are allowing less points, but they have a better efficiency defense. TO, Steals and blocks are similar, but Sjerven might be the difference in blocks.
We are looking at playing our "Southern Doppelganger" against Mizzou. I'm glad this game is at home!

Ball control and Misc stats:
-1.0 Rebound Margin MU +2.8 Rebound Margin USD
-2.25 Turnover Margin MU -0.75 Turnover Margin USD
21.3 P Fouls/game MU 18.8 P Fouls/game USD
75-99 (75.8%) Free Throws MU 73-97 (75.3%) Free Throws USD
I think this is really where we can make the biggest difference. We HAVE to control the glass on them, and be smart with the ball, limiting turnovers. That is true in every game, but I think it's possibly our biggest advantage against MU.
Both teams draw fouls and commit fouls at a very high rate. Both teams also shoot from the stripe at a high rate. We have to play clean down the stretch to win what will likely be a close game. JMO

Assist/TO ratios for our 8 with significant minutes: player | assists | turnovers | ratio | minutes | M. Arens | 10 | 5 | 2.00 | 35.3 | T. Frederick | 8 | 4 | 2.00 | 21.5 | L. Korngable | 6 | 3 | 2.00 | 15.5 | C. Duffy | 24 | 13 | 1.85 | 38.8 | J. Ugofsky | 1 | 1 | 1.00 | 7.0 | C. Lamb | 9 | 14 | 0.64 | 36.8 | M. McKeever | 6 | 10 | 0.60 | 34.3 | H. Sjerven | 1 | 5 | 0.20 | 20.8 |
So what can we learn from these numbers? I know what my takeaway might be, going into a game against a tough, ball-hawking team........ (our point guards are at the bottom, so maybe we should reconsider who brings the ball upcourt?)

As far as rebounding goes, Sjerven is our leading rebounder, getting 7.8 in 20.8 minutes. At that rate she would be getting 15 rebounds per 40 minutes.
Frederick is our third leading rebounder, getting 5.3 in 21.5 minutes. At that rate she would be getting 9.9 in 40 minutes.
Ugofsky is our eighth-leadig rebounder, but third-best per minute. She is getting 7.4 per 40 minutes.
I'm not saying those three should be all getting more minutes. There is only so much to go around. I do like Frederick's combination of ball control and rebounding, though. At least for this game.

(our point guards are at the bottom, so maybe we should reconsider who brings the ball upcourt?) These are actually unbelievably poor numbers from our guards who tend to handle the ball a lot. I’m not sure how Chloe and Madison don’t have more assists simply given the fact that you’ll stumble over a few assists per game just by virtue of being on the floor as much as they are. I guess it makes me feel better knowing that we’re 4-0 but still have room to grow.
