Coppin State is 0-8 and lost 94-41 at sdsu on Thursday.
That should wrap up the pregame analysis. You're welcome kiyoat.

Looks like the bench saw the floor a good deal. Hempe played.

Coppin State was, um, not very good. I don't understand why they had to travel all the way from the East Coast to the hinterlands to have their asses handed to them twice. I would think there are probably plenty of teams within a bus trip from their home base to play, and maybe even be competitive with.

John Thayer said before on the radio they have had to travel all over to “guarantee” games to supplement their programs existence. They only play 2 non-conference home games.

Coppin State isn't the only one, most of the HBCUs are in this boat because they are woefully underfunded. Look at the schedule of any member of the SWAC or MEAC. Alabama State is visiting Vermillion this week as part of a 15 game road trip to start the season. Most of those games are nowhere close to home either. Their first home game of the season is January 11.

Thayer also said they originally had scheduled SDSU game first but it sounded like they basically called us and asked if we would play them too since they were already coming here. Not sure if we paid them too.

Here's an interesting stat from the GoYotes pre-game article: Yotes' first six games:Allowing 73.5 ppg Yotes' last four games:Allowing 52.5 ppg I'll take that stat a step further: opponent | ave ppg | vs USD | diff* | Northeastern | 60.6 | 76 | +15.4 | Green Bay | 74.1 | 60 | -14.1 | Drake | 82.0 | 94(82)* | 0.0 | Utah | 75 | 81(71)* | -4.0 | Missouri | 71.9 | 56 | -15.9 | Missouri St | 76.6 | 74 | -2.6 | Ohio State | 69.6 | 53 | -16.6 | N. Illinois | 66.4 | 48 | -18.4 | Creighton | 67.0 | 65 | -2.0 | Coppin St | 44.2 | 44 | -0.2 |
* used regulation score, not OT I'd say our "good defense" games were Green Bay, Missouri, Ohio State and Northern Illinois. I'm hopeful that that is the standard going forward in conference play. Playing Drake, Missouri State and Creighton, those three teams seem to be a tough matchup for our defense. We were lucky to go 2-1 vs those teams. We still could have a couple of games like that in conference vs State, or Denver or ORU, if they are hitting from the arc. Northeastern, Utah and Coppin State were examples of "bad defense" games by USD standards. Northeastern was the first game of the year, and we may have had a kink or two to work out. We play them or Utah today, and it goes differently, defense-wise. Coppin State was just a game where we could have named the score, but played the bench instead.

In conclusion, I think the first four games had some uncharacteristically bad defensive showings, but the Missouri game marked the return of consistency on that side of the ball. Teams like Drake, Mo State and Creighton are always going to score some points.
Coach P's standard is that she wants to see our opponents score at least 10 points below their average. We did that in 4 of 10 games, and should/could have in 7 of 10 IMHO.

Mount Marty is scoring 70.7 ppg, but that is against NAIA teams, and I think this will be another "development" game where we don't see the starters much in the second half.
Maybe we will get to see Hempe and Guebert get some more minutes. Not sure why Allison Peplowski didn't see the court in the last game. She didn't look injured.

I don't have Twitter, but usually when my Chromecast icon is missing it means that it isn't powered on. Other potential issue could be the Chromecast isn't connected to the network. If the device is powered on and you are on the right input you should be able to see the network name in the bottom right. Can't come up with any ideas beyond that.
