We can stop helping on the post anytime now. Part of the reason for all the 3’s

Way too many open 3's. Arens and his funky delivery is deadly. Wingett is on a tear as well

99-84 final. Simpson stepped up and went 8/9 for 21 points. Team shot 64% on the day. Looking a lot more like that team we saw in Hawaii with each game. I'll be disappointed if this team isn't dancing.

Simpson looked like old Simpson today.

Today was a good day. 99 points against state is no joke.

Good but not great today. The defense has to tighten up. I thought this was supposed to be a D first team. This year they can get away with playing ole defense but when Simpson and Hags are not around the offense isn't going to be filling it up like this and will need to rely on that D. The Coyotes needed this game badly and basically a survival game and it did show with the effort at least on offense. The Jacks were without their best player and best D player and that made a huge difference. I expect a Jacks win in Brookings as has happened every time they have met in Brookings in the D1 era but would like to be wrong on that.
It is going to come down to the defense going forward. So far the contributors have been Smith's offensive guys so we will see if next year the team takes more of a defensive identity. The Coyotes are going to need to go out on the road and get a win or two but most of the road games remaining will be difficult.
The Coyotes have a chance with this win and need to run with this and not look back. The team can do it, now it is time to go out and bust their asses and execute.

I don't know if I've ever seen a game where the shooting percentages were as high as they were for both teams. If you'd just been told before the game started that one team would be filling it up like they did, you'd have had to figure that team would be a lock for an easy victory. It didn't seem to me that either team was that lax on defense, players were just making plays. The fact that we didn't have the one big scoring drought was one thing about this game that stood out too. Every time they had a little run, the 'Yotes would answer right back.

I'm sure glad we shot the lights out because we needed it as it seemed State shot great as well. It seemed if we doubled them in the post they would hit a 3, if we didn't double them we couldn't stop them down low. Not looking forward to playing them in Brookings when they are fully healthy. Hags seemed to be in quite a bit of pain but played an unbelievable first half. Peterson made some great plays, hit some tough shots. I expected more fans for a doubleheader. Maybe the reason it seemed like there were so many open seats was because there were hardly any state fans at the game.

I believe there were a lot more fans at the women's game - if you left when it was over you were able to watch the second half of the KC/TN game. Then of course the Pack and SF. Tough to compete against Championship Sunday. I talked with friends during the women's game that were leaving when it was over for the football.

I'm not sure that this was something that was 'exposed', but SDSU's guards can't really defend physical/strong guards. Part of that is just that they are young (Yotes were noticeably stronger and SDSU still had a lot of 'high school bodies'). Also not new news, the Yotes are not good at defending the 3, and it allows teams to get in a grove and start shooting ridiculous percentages. As counter-intuitive as it may at first sound, the Yotes likely would have been better off if Wilson would have played since his points would have taken away some 3s. (And Dentlinger may have played less - he had a phenomenal day.)

...the Yotes are not good at defending the 3, and it allows teams to get in a grove and start shooting ridiculous percentages.... This is something that really perplexes me. When Lee came here, one of the things we thought was that defense would be a focus, especially perimeter defense. After all, he was the Assistant HC, and the primary defensive coach, for a team that had insane 3PT defensive efficiency. At the time I was thinking: "perfect for the Summit". Now I am left wondering if it is more about who you recruit than how you coach? In many ways that is just generally true for MBB, I think. Jimmies and Joes, not Xs and Os. They must have had some outstanding athletic defenders on that GCU team. Chisom might be a "prototype" player for that.

Chisom had a great game yesterday with 9pts off the bench and several key defensive plays.

Not sure who it was exactly, but I remember some high profile college coach saying something like 80% of coaching is successful recruiting?
