This is an interesting development: Sounds like Vermillion will host TWO non-conference tournaments next year! (plus the VB SLT, of course) Stay tuned on what teams. I don't know when that gets announced. This is great for a couple of reasons:
1A. Home matches are easier on the student-athletes. 1B. Home court advantage. 2. More home matches means more $ for the department. 3. More opportunities for fans to go to games, capitalizing on the increased interest in the sport. 4. More televised or streamed games for out-of region fans (because of our awesome streaming policies and midcoSN relationship.
I hope we get some great opponents next year. I'm guessing the schedule will overall have some tougher opponents. Just like in WBB, many top programs like to pad their RPI scores with "RPI goldmine" mid-major teams. Now that we have established ourselves as a top Midmajor, scheduling tough becomes a little easier IMO.
This local region is chock full of great teams we haven't yet played much in the regular season, like Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Creighton, Northern Iowa, Colorado State, Kansas and Kansas State, Missouri, Marquette, Green Bay, Illinois, etc.
