She looks promising, but the coaches want to make sure that she knows how to pass inside. If she’s getting 12 rebounds a game, it tells me they don’t have a strong big on their team. And then we will be stuck with another situation like Grace, where they think they have to do it all and don’t know when to pass in or outside. Especially if you do have a big like we are going to have with Demers, and Natalie. I would hope that's something coachable. Liv and Coach P both mentioned in the past that Liv had the reverse problem. She was always an assist machine in HS and early college, but had to learn to take matters into her own hands offensively. Clearly she got it figured out with the right coaching. When you at least start out with someone that aggressively goes after rebounds and the rim, that's a better starting point than the reverse, IMHO. Its hard to teach "want-to". Sounds like she would fit the culture of blue-collar hard-nosed play. And she's a national honors society member. I think we've had a few of those...

Avery is a fantastic young lady and a fierce competitor. Very unfortunate situation!

The best thing they could do now, get her into rehab, graduate early, get her to USD and have her sit out her senior year of HS ball. She is a good kid, good grades, motivated, her senior team is not going to be good, CS lost a lot. I don't see risking a college career for one more year of HS. Move to Vermillion, start school, prepare for the transition to college basketball in a place which has an excellent staff of athletic trainers and physical therapists who can work with her on a full recovery.

I understand the logic behind this and agree that she shouldn't play her senior season, but it might be a little late to graduate more than a semester early. Plus, it can't be easy to convince a 17 year old to forgo the HS senior experience. I say let her be a kid for one more year while still preparing for the jump to college.

If one of my kids said they wanted to graduate from high school a year early so they could get to college and likely essentially redshirt anyway I would be sad for them.

I agree. They get one chance at being a kid. This whole sports thing is getting crazy. Not what I bargained for. Stay in high school, go to class, goof off, date, prom, etc
You’ve got your whole life in front of you. This world we are living in is nuts. I hate where college sports appears to be heading.

What rules apply to signed recruits in the wake of a HC Change? Does a university need to release the player on an individual basis? Football players have been known to re-open recruitment when the coaching staff changes, even when the national letter of intent was signed earlier.

Avree Antony, 5'-10" Combo Guard 2023 Sun Prairie HS; Sun Prairie, WI (Madison Metro area) AAU: Let it Rain Good list of offers www.wissports.net/roster_players/47976082Offers:Butler
Colorado State Green Bay Evansville Illinois State IUPUI Milwaukee Monmouth Oakland Omaha North DakotaSaint LouisSt. Thomas Kansas CityValpo South DakotaInterest from 8 other high majors and 9 other mid-majors, including SDSU. Coach Horn was following her previously, too. Two of our new assistant coaches that were former recruiting coordinators (at St. Lou and Butler) had previously offered her. I think that's the reference to "thanks for believing in me from the start" in her post. She looks to be very athletic already in HS, with some nice moves under the basket (in her highlight clips).

Ok, now this is starting to make some sense, possibly. I was in Sun Prairie, WI this past weekend and while sitting at the stop sign by Milio's Sandwich Shop on the main drag another vehicle (local plates) was honking and waving at me like they knew me. Maybe it was the South Dakota plates and the SD Paw sticker on the back window. Hmmm....

Some Highlights on YouTube for Avree:
My untrained eyes see a little Liv in her quick mid-range jumper and her passing. Also some Alison Arens in her hard slash to the basket and scoop-shot.
Interesting that all her arc shooting appears to be jumpers. No idea if that's good or bad, but it would seem to me that you sacrifice a little control for power and height on a jump shot. That's why you don't jump on free-throws. A jumper is harder to block, though. So that's good. She seems to have a quick form - catch and shoot. (of course, we only see the makes on highlight reels)
Any better observations from our BB guys/gals?

Every outside shooter at basically every level jumps when they shoot the ball.
