Gotta agree with CF here. What's the goal here? Is it to beat state or to make it to the tourney? I would like to beat them as much as anybody, but remember what happened in Brookings? The SLT is just a bigger home game for state. Why would we want to make it harder on ourselves to win the tournament? I would much rather play the bison, who we've lost to twice this season, than have to play state again. My actual point of not wanting to play the Jacks is not because of the strength of their team but moreso because that environment just favors them with their fans especially when they play South Dakota. Just look at the Coyote men's team that lost a big second half lead in 2017. I don't think it was necessarily the Jacks team that they lost to as much as it was the environment. Their fans may have had an impact on the officials as well. 11 straight fouls on the Coyotes is all that needs to be said. For the Women they have tended to play much worse than they usually do when they play the Jacks at that tourney. For whatever reason they seem to be able to win in Frost but can't win at the tourney. I will credit the Jacks for much of that. But the environment is the key IMO. I remember a game a few years ago where the Coyote Women were not even making layups. They missed so many bunnies that one had to wonder why. It wasn't the Jacks defense that caused it. It was more the nervousness of the moment and feeling like they were in enemy territory even as the #1 seed in many instances. Sorry for being negative for those that don't like it but it is more based on reality eventhough comes off as negative. Only 1 tourney title in about 10 years is unacceptable and to not recognize that is like burrying a head in the sand. What are the Yotes, like 0-4 against the Jacks as a #1 seed collectively with men and women. So why as the #1 seed have they not even won one time? I would like someone to explain that to me. This tourney has been very bad for the Coyotes especially since they are #2 in fan support. So basically as favorites the Coyotes have never beaten the Jacks and as under dogs almost just as bad. Why anyone would want to face that team with the history is beyond me. The team would not celebrate any less because they didn't have to go through the Jacks to win the tourney. The men got a big time gift yesterday and now are the favorites to get to the title game. Why is it that no one from USD ever brings up the lack of success for this tourney. If there is a problem which is this tourney it needs to be addressed. I have never heard anyone really talk about it. Problems aren't solved by ignoring them but instead taking them head on. With how good the Coyote Women are on a neutral floor they beat SDSU 90% of the time. At this tourney which is not really nuetral I still feel the Yotes are barely a favorite. Maybe 60-40 the Yotes win but it scares me that it is that close. In this environment the unfriendly environment effects the players mentally. I have seen it all too often.

Just look at the Coyotes record vs the Jacks at this tourney. They have won one time collectively in all of these years and all of these matchups. Just look at the Mooney led team from 2017. They were plenty confidence and had just come off a major winning streak to end that season. They were a team on a roll. They were a team that had the Jacks dead to rights. What other team in what other environment would have ever overcome a good Coyote team with a huge second half lead.
Here is what happened. The Denny happened. Suddenly once the big Rabbit fan base got going it turned everything including the mentality of the officiating. As a #4 seed vs the #1 seed the calls were completely lopsided in favor of the Jacks in the second half. The refs let the environment get into their head. The crow d got into the Coyotes head. They were not doing the same things that got them the lead in the first place. Basically more than just the Jacks themselves turned that game. Many factors lead to the Yotes losing that game and I would say over half of them were not the actual Jacks players themselves.
If the best team in Coyote D1 history as a #1 seed could not overcome a #4 seeded Jacks team than what other circumstances would lend one to believe that things will change. It is not wanting to simply avoid the Jacks teams themselves but to avoid everything else that comes with it. A Coyote team has to be at least 10 points better on average to just make it an even game against them in that tourney.
I would say on average the Coyote Women are 20 points better then the Jacks. But you can throw out many of those 20 points if these teams meet on Tuesday. History and Trends do not happen by accident. They can be overcome but they can not be forgotten about because if they are history will repeat itself.

UND is playing great at the right time. They easily took care of PFW last night.

It's a long drive, but not impossible. Would love to see more fans from driveable schools like the ND schools + Omaha. Really, KC isn't too far either (next year).

You would hope to see a surge for the title game. Taking work off with minimal notice has to be a roadblock for many people though. I don't blame the other fanbases for their limited attendance. It's such a large financial investment when you can't sleep at home each night. Then there's the part where you have no idea how many games you'll even be attending. Most don't dream of a vacation in Sioux Falls so it's not like they would have much to do if they booked a few nights in a hotel and then their team lost in the first round.

Maybe it's a little warmer here than Grand Forks today? Find your beach, I guess. (Corona reference) Was looking for an Ironic "find your beach" meme with some desolate landscape, or people wearing parkas. No luck.
