I think comparing football and basketball is a bit like comparing oranges and cuties. In football it takes years to recruit and build a roster. It’s been compared to turning an aircraft carrier. In basketball you get 2-3 years depending on the situation. It can still be used against you in recruiting though.

The scary thing is there is not one person that could sell me on our outlook looks better than the jacks in these next 3 years. It’s not even close as Lee has some work to get us to that point.
A big if but if we go 0-3 in summit league conference tournaments in Lee’s first 3 years no way we can extend. He’s one of the states highest paid employees. Fingers crossed we can make some strides next year.
I do feel bad for the seniors as that’s a crushing way to go out. They worked hard for the U, sad to see them go.

We had a great team and a huge window here to finally win the tournament. Hard to imagine ever having this good of an opportunity again. I'm so utterly disappointed with Lee this season. Last year I could forgive our performance because of all the injuries. No excuse this year. I can't say Lee is coaching for his job next year unless the wheels fall off and we win like 10 games, but I have to think his seat is going to get very hot if there's another underwhelming season.

Todd Lee got a 3 year contract. After these first 2 years, how in the hell does Lee ask Herbster for a contract extension with a straight face? That's a tough one. A coach trying to recruit when he is in year 3 of a three-year contract, and no extension.... I'm not sure how Herbster handles that. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I think you extend him year-by-year so that he is always working on a two-year contract. Keeps the buyout down, helps recruiting, but also gives the option to send the coach into a "do or die" year if results are lacking. As frustrating as this season was you can't label it a trainwreck.

Todd Lee got a 3 year contract. After these first 2 years, how in the hell does Lee ask Herbster for a contract extension with a straight face? The bottom line is this, everyone has had their opinion on Todd Lee since he was hired whether being positive or negative. Like most coaches he's had moments of success, and moments were Coyote fans look at each other wondering, "why did we hire this guy?" Nonetheless, here is my thought process on the whole should USD extend or not topic that seems to be going through everyone's mind. As most of you know, these seniors (minus Kelley) and Stanley are the last of the Craig Smith recruiting class. Which means next year will be Todd Lee's biggest test in my opinion. He will now have three recruiting classes of his choosing in the program and only one guy whom was here prior to Coach Lee taking the job at USD. Sure, we all agree Stanley is an incredible player, but what do you put around him to help take USD to the next level? That's the question I'm sure all of you are curious about. You see, SDSU has a very young team, and NDSU always seem to find themselves in the mix, and who knows what other teams have entering next year. The biggest question that will be answered next season is can Todd Lee's recruits be enough to get USD over the hump, or at least back into contention for a SL title? So should Coach Lee get an extension? Too me, let's see how next year plays out.

Wow. One season with sub-20 wins, and they send him packing. I'm not sure that was actually the best decision, but I'm not an athletic director. Sounds like he had a super-transfer that never became eligible, and some key injuries this year. To me, one poor season is an over-reaction. With that having been said, they were humming along just fine with Lee as the Assistant HC, "defensive coordinator", and mentor to Majerle. 2013–14 Grand Canyon 15–15 _10–6 3rd ___CIT First Round 2014–15 Grand Canyon 17–15 __8–6 T–2nd _CIT First Round 2015–16 Grand Canyon 27–7 __11–3 T–2nd _CIT Quarterfinal 2016–17 Grand Canyon 22–9 __11–3 T–2nd 2017–18 Grand Canyon 22–12 __9–5 3rd ___CBI First Round 2018–19 Grand Canyon 20–14 _10–6 3rd ___CBI First Round 2019–20 Grand Canyon 13–17 __8–8 T–5th Grand Canyon: 136–89 (.604) 67–36 (.650)

Maybe Todd will hire Majerle as a new associate head coach at USD. Wouldn’t that be something.
