Awesome! Hey, do you mind changing the thread title to "2021 Volleyball Commits"? Just edit your first post, and you can change the title, too.

With only Sammy S graduating after this next season not sure how many additional commits there may be in the '21 class.

With only Sammy S graduating after this next season not sure how many additional commits there may be in the '21 class. Interesting. It's hard to say, because not all of them are on scholarship right now. I'm sure Sammy is, but each D-1 team can only award a maximum of 12. And unless I am mistaken, D-1 WVB is a headcount sport, not an equivalency sport. So no partial scholarships. In other words, some of these new offers could be walk-ons or grey shirt offers.

Obviously keeping the pipeline from NE and IA is good for the program. Hope we can start snagging some of the elite SD kids soon, but expect we may see some of them again (ala Sammy S.).

Yep, I think Leanne has been here long enough to already have established a reputation recruiting those talent-rich states. Minnesota, too. If you read the linked articles above, both local papers mentioned the number of players already on our roster from NE and IA. I wonder if one of the reasons you see a handful of players each year from ND and SD go to P-5 schools, and less to USD, is that a lot of multiple sport athletes around here choose basketball over volleyball? The ones that end up choosing volleyball are often of the elite-caliber type. In Nebraska the reverse is true, and IA and MN just have a much larger pool of athletes to go around. So there are lots of both. Just a theory. The Sioux Falls area now has a couple of good AAU programs, so we might start seeing more mid-level talent feeding local schools at all levels (D-I, D-II, NAIA). Just some casual observances by me, no inside info.

... Hope we can start snagging some of the elite SD kids soon, but expect we may see some of them again (ala Sammy S.). I also agree with this. You don't have to look far to see a few other examples of this already happening other than Sammy. Maddie Wiedenfeld from the same transfer class is from Omaha, with family nearby Vermillion. She was playing in New Hampshire and decided she'd rather play closer to home. Or on the basketball side there is Hannah, recruited to New Mexico. The coaching change happened there, and we lucked out with her deciding to play for Coach P, with the added benefit of playing closer to her Minnesota home. Or look no further than both Duffy sisters. When Caitlin transferred to USD from Colorado State, she mentioned the opportunity of playing in and representing her home state was a major factor. I have it on authority that this was absolutely true, and not just hot air. She was proud to play in SD. And then landing Ciara had everything to do with the opportunity of playing with her sister (and staying in-state). She had multiple opportunities to play at a P-5 school out-of-state, and to play at SDSU, but cut her recruitment short early. Those Duffys are thick as thieves. And let's not forget Amber Hegge and Mandy Koupal, two locals that could have played elsewhere. State has benefited too, from elite athletes that choose to play closer to home. Macy Miller comes to mind. She chose State over out-of-state opportunities. Tagyn Larson, a SF native, transfered back here from the Hawkeyes. Then there is the case of Freidel on the men's side coming back from Wright State (that one still hurts a little). No doubt we could possibly get another crack at some VB players like Sydni Schetnan (Louisville, WBB and VB). I doubt Leanne will throw her number away....

Local recruitment should always be the easiest. If our women's basketball and volleyball teams can stay elite with regular wins over p-5 opponents, we should have no problem convincing recruits that we are on par with or even better as a program than most bigger schools.

Looks like we got a MB transfer player a couple of weeks ago: Brynn Paumen. goyotes.com/news/2021/5/12/womens-volleyball-coyotes-add-paumen-to-roster.aspxSounds like a quality player, being initially recruited to an SEC program. I wouldn't have picked out MB as a position of need, but when opportunities are there to pick up a quality student-athlete, you take them. Did I mention she is 6'-2"? If she played 2 seasons at Mizzou, then missed the 2020 fall season due to covid, I think she will be a 3-for-two athlete? (three years to play two seasons)? Basically a repeat Junior.
