Big difference between Van Ginkel and Schultz was that Schultz was hurt and Van Ginkel just up and left. I have no problem with a player wanting to challenge himself at a higher level, but when you don't inform the coaching staff, your teammates or even your roommate and you sneak back into town over break to get your stuff, I'm not putting them on anything. Have some common courtesy and decency to the people who believed in you and developed you. Same goes for any of our three infamous defensive backs. They really let this their team down and don't deserve any accolades at all. The pollsters get to decide how much perceived honor means.

You're right, but that won't stop me from throwing my overly opinionated two cents in.

Yotes can you include career stats and accolades by chance? I do have the ability to edit. I started adding in the stats and realized it's going to be a lot more work than it is worth. Looking up each player, figuring out what year was the last that they played so I can get their full stats from the website, then re-typing their stats is very time consuming. I'll also get on a platform and say that stats can be misleading, but more relevant is how many D2/NAIA schools some of the earlier guys played against. I got through QB and RB. SPOILER: Streveler and Simmons have left humongous shoes to fill for whoever gets the job next.

I think I'll give it the weekend and then I'll post results. Only 24 responses so far. My men's basketball poll has 31 responses despite being posted a couple days later. I intend on posting the women's basketball poll tomorrow, and I expect a whole lot of debate from that one.

Now! A follow-up survey to look back on Coyote Football in the 2010s: www.surveymonkey.com/r/QSNPKFMQuestions in the follow-up poll are: Favorite Win Favorite Individual Moment Best Coach Best Team MVP Favorite Player Parts of this survey are derived from ideas I got while doing the WBB survey I'm putting together (which is taking me a very long time, as I keep getting ideas and have a ton of stats/accolades to type in). Again, please let me know if you have feedback.

I started to take the All-Decade poll but only got half way through it. Time constraints. I wanted to give it the thorough analysis it deserved but didn't finish.
Great off-season talk here.

Liked the last survey much better.
Most interesting thing I came away with is how high of expectations we have each year and how disappointing/underperforming the seasons always turn out. USD has fielded some pretty good teams that have pulled off big wins in almost every season yet also loses head scratching games and is just not consistent. Case in point, my #2 team was last seasons team. 5-7 (4-4 in the MVFC) but had head scratching loses to Houston Baptist and WIU. Would have been 7-5 with a winning conference record and might have had the confidence to pull off an additional win against SIU or UNI and could have been in the playoff hunt again.
USD is now consistently a mid level MVFC team with consistent 4-4 to 3-5 conference records. Time to build from that in the 2020s.

I did try to leave it open to the voter whether they wanted to dive all in or not with the ability to vote for just a starting lineup or two full teams. Kind of tough with football though since that's still a minimum of 24 guys. I'm thankful for everyone who could participate in voting and the following discussion. One big surprise for me was Donte Warren taking 2nd team over Austin Simmons - and by a 2:1 margin! I'd say stats favor Simmons, and he played against much stiffer competition.

In my unfinished ballot I had Warren as my second choice as well. He was a talented QB and beating the Gophers doesn't hurt.
I think Simmons is really good and has taken a lot of unwarranted flack here but the bottom line is, like I said in my other post, these teams have underperformed compared to expectations and I bet that hurt him in the vote.

Both Warren and Simmons piled up some impressive stats, but I chose Warren (and, of course, Streveler) on the strength of his having led two signature wins: 2010 over Minnesota and the 2011 win over defending national champion Eastern Washington.
