Well, I'll say this:
- Looks like we've now lost all the goodwill in rankings from last year. That's just fine by me. Put the chip on your shoulder and get ready for those rivalry games. - I'm glad we are no longer using the RPI. We shall see how the NET stacks up. - NDSU getting votes in the Coaches Poll above USD is silly - It will be fun to see a new opponent in Kansas City, and some improved play from NDSU and Omaha. - Seems like some teams are jockeying to see who will be the new doormats of the league, with Ft. Wayne gone and Omaha improving (somewhat).

Looking at a few stats to compare conference teams that are less dependent on SOS and opponent quality, since those are not equal right now.....
Here's an interesting stat, (FT made/game) it combines the ability to draw fouls and the ability to convert, normalized per game:
17.5 NDSU
15.4 SDSU 15.1 USD 14.8 Denver 14.6 UND
12.5 ORU 11.6 WIU 10.5 UMKC 9.6 Omaha

In other Summit games this opening weekend:
Kansas City won @ North Dakota 71-67, with the second game cancelled. NDSU split the series at WIU. ORU/Omaha was postponed.
So the surprising outcome was emergent NDSU losing at Western Ill, a program that had been struggling. Probably just some correction to the mean. Both programs rely heavily on arc shooting, so you will have good and bad days. Lets hope we catch them both on bad days. Like Friday the 13th. Or March 15th.

This is how things stand after 2 weeks
South Dakota (4-0) probably not the toughest schedule but blowouts in all 4 games. You cannot fault the schedule when you don't struggle with any part of it. Most impressive team so far.
SDSU (2-0) they haven't had eye popping home wins again the Leathernecks. Maybe WIU is getting their act together. We will find out how much next weekend as the Yotes will travel to Macomb.
ORU (2-0) they have played what is absolutely turning into a putrid UND program. They better be 2-0 but honestly an eight point win over the Hawks at home is not very great.
NDSU (3-1) Not very impressive against Omaha but two wins. I think some of the honeymoon feeling might be wearing off a little as the WIU loss may haunt them all Summit season long.
Kansas City (1-2) so they are in 5th place after getting shellacked by the defensing league champs. They will probably be middle of the pack all year.
Western Illinois (1-3) playing NDSU and SDSU is not exactly a fun start to their year and they get USD next. They have definitely upped their play since the Summit started but this hole is too deep to crack the top 2 in the conference.
Denver (0-2) They have regressed recently in the league. Not exactly a fair assessment of them having to play their only 2 games in a building that is pretty much impossible to win in for any opposing conference opponents. They may pull off an upset or two at home before all is said and done.
Omaha (0-2) It doesn't seem to matter who coaches this team. They haven't had much time to improve but they need to do that.
North Dakota (0-3) what is going on in Grand Forks. This once proud program is probably just about hitting an all time low right now. They have been nothing but horrible this year. Is it possible for them to finish in last and miss the conference tourney. I wouldn't think so but just because it is very possible is a depressing thought for UND.

The Jacks beat Omaha 62-50 and 64-54 this weekend. Two wins sure, but I don't exactly take that as a bode of confidence for SDSU. The Coyotes would have probably beaten the Mavs by 30 and 40 points the way the Coyotes have been playing. Could that actually slightly hurt the Jacks NET ranking.
The Bison only beat UND in Grand Forks by 4 on Friday. Not exactly a great win by the Bison at a very bad Hawks team. NDSU's roll seems to be slowing as does SDSU's. USD just continues to get better and better.
Kansas City won at Western Illinois by 14. Are you kidding me. The Coyotes treated the Roos like a high school team last weekend. What is going on with the Necks lately. WIU is bouncing back so far today but still they have been so up and down but mostly down.
Denver who once against was treated like a high school team by the Coyotes beat ORU at home by 18 on Friday. It just goes to show that making a trip out to Denver for anyone can be a nightmare on the wrong night.
You can't always compare scores but often times you can and the Coyotes are once again the class of the Summit League by comparisons.

Just peeked at the standings and I see UND is 0-12 on the season. Oof. Did all the players leave when the coach was fired? 0-12 isn't easy to do...

Just peeked at the standings and I see UND is 0-12 on the season. Oof. Did all the players leave when the coach was fired? 0-12 isn't easy to do... Actually, quite the opposite. They had a large number of returning players. They actually lead the league in rebound margin and shot-blocking but are horrendous with shooting% and perimeter defense. Most other stats are right in the middle of the league. (I looked because I was curious too) I watched the first quarter of one of their games, and I was impressed with their forwards. They don't have the defensive speed and shooting from good guards, though. Similar criticism I have had with SDSU. You can't just be enamored with size at all positions in recruiting IMHO. They have also been snakebit with Covid depleting their roster for many games. All that having been said, zero wins has to point to poor coaching, too. They shouldn't be this bad. They have a previously assistant coach as an interim. You get what you pay for, I guess. Look for a new staff in the spring, and hopefully for them some transfer guards.

I hate to agree with you but being UND fan all my life the last couple of years has been absolute hell to watch. I can't blame it all on this interm coach they have now but i thought she would add couple of players that would have helped this team. The front court of this team will compete with any teams in the Summit conference and i am not so sure if they had guards to play with them they might be one of the best group of front court players in Summit. The problem for UND is for last 3 to 4 years the guards we have recruited have been at best off guard and given enough time can hit outside 3 and some of this i believe with better coaching i think they are better shooting than they have shown. But we haven't found point guard since we played NCAA tournament that could score and create opportunities for others to score off there driving to the basket. I don't know the reason for not getting better talent at guard if its lack judging talent or mental attitude in past everything started from the paint but game has changed the game is now about guard that creates the offense. This is going to be interesting off season does Bernhard interm-coach get another year or do they just start over with new person for the program. The way the season has gone i am getting to believe were going to see a change in personnel but i do feel for her in that this has been most non typical year to take over program and try to make changes and then add one girl that she brought in a point guard gets hurt before conference season and other young point guard has been hurt most of the season has limited her options to fixing most glaring weakness in the roster. Bernhard has had what's look like some good front court recruits but again nothing has been said to fix their glaring weakness at Guard but if right coach came in and found guards this team could have quick turn around because the cupboard is not bare just needs couple of pieces and right coaching.
