Any word if Korngable or Arens are planning on coming back next season? I thought I heard somewhere that Korngable was for sure. No word on Arens that I know of anyway.

Also, just to clarify: So anyone playing this year doesn't use up a year of eligibility, but the extension of maximum roster numbers is limited to next year? I assume it is also limited to the number of current seniors that take advantage of that rule. In other words, USD doesn't get five additional roster spots for whoever fills them, just because we have five seniors now. The NCAA will only extend that max roster number for returning seniors, right?
I'll also assume that a transferring senior would forgo that benefit? If not, the transfer market would be insane. Especially in men's basketball.

Prepare for Mayhem, because seniors can transfer and use their bonus year at another school. And since most seniors will be grad students, they won’t have to sit out at their new school. However, the roster expansion only applies to the number of seniors that you have that are staying. It also only applies to schools that can afford to pay the extra scholarships. Some schools may not opt for this expense. And each school has to make that decision on whether players will be allowed to stay.

Roster management and scholarship distribution (and recruiting) will make for some difficult decisions for all parties moving forward. Hard to come up with a better way, though. I'm glad the pandemic won't be stealing a year from these student-athletes. There will always be trade-offs, I suppose.

That is a pretty good summary of this ESPN article (which focuses on MBB) www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/30951515/why-college-basketball-free-year-going-make-some-difficult-conversationsThey estimate 1500 entries to the transfer portal if the waiver for sitting out on your first transfer goes through. And the open/blunt recruiting of mid-major players by the P5 is discussed too.

I believe I saw a tweet at one point that this is Kunzer’s final season. I believe she is a nursing major, so clinical rotations probably plays into it. I do worry about Monica’s ability to play because of the same rotations.

Except for the student athletes last year like Duffy, McKeever, ect. who made the big dance looking at a nice seeding and were unable to come back. Its just a messed up situation any way you look at it.

The WBB Instagram page seems to have confirmed that Monica will not return next season. Posted a “thank you” to Claudia and Monica, and a “thrilled to have you back” to Chloe, Liv, and Hannah. Not surprising, but sad to see her go, especially after losing her to an injury this season.

Well since it appears Monica is going to be leaving the program due to graduation I will share my favorite memory of her. She is obviously known for her tenacity and defense but I will never forget the buzzer beater bank shot she hit to force overtime in the home game against Drake last season. That was one of my favorite games I have seen in the SCSC. The Coyotes trailed almost that entire game and would never give up but it just seemed like one of those nights where the Coyotes were never going to get over the hump and grab the lead. After Monica's tying shot the Coyotes dominated the overtime and stole a game where they were probably not the better team for most of the night. That doesn't happen to the Coyotes at home very often (meaning not being the better team for the most part) but it did that night.

Without that shot and that win the season would have looked a little different. A loss to another mid-major would have knocked us down a few spots. More importantly, it just fed into the team's 'we can hang with anyone' mentality. Great pick for fav.
