Is anyone else slightly nervous about a potential second round matchup with NDSU? They’re much improved from 3 years ago and Jory Collins is certainly making his presence known. I’m optimistic about there being the usual USD/SDSU championship game but something seems off this year where I can’t say for certain that’ll be the case. Neutral court, no fans, injured players.... sounds like a recipe for upsets.

Absolutely. I think the Yotes gotta be the betting favorites at this point with what happened injury-wise in Brookings but this isn’t going to be a normal SLT and anything could happen.

I will take the Coyotes over the Jacks in the final by about 10. The jinx against the Jacks in the final was exorcized last year.

SDSU over Omaha UMKC over Western Illinois (I just can't trust the Leathernecks) South Dakota over Oral Roberts (why do the Yotes always have to play them) NDSU over Denver (in a nail biter)
SDSU over UMKC but this one may be an upset USD over NDSU (the Coyotes experience in this tourney will give them the edge)
USD over SDSU (pretty much a toss up but with no crowd I like the Yotes)

Yeah, I’d say Western, ORU and NDSU are all capable of pulling off an upset. Too bad we play two of them.

I like the way this team is playing. They're going to be a tough out. Krull's assertiveness is big. If they don't have some unlikely night where Sjerven gets into foul trouble and two of the three perimeter scorers all have sub-par offensive efforts they're going to be pretty tough with how they've shown they can defend. And I think that might be even more true if and when they get out of conference against somebody that isn't quite as familiar with their tendencies in the tournament.

Ok, as a long time reader of this forum, I sheepishly make my first post. I'll say this, as a kid, I watched some of the worst Yote women's basketball ever. I've enjoyed this 20+ year run as much as anyone. This current team is so full of potential. I feel last year's team had every expectation thrown on them, and then some, and all they did was outperform even what the most loyal fans thought was possible. They set the bar incredibly high, maybe unfairly high to this year's team.
As for this year's SLT and this Yote team, I am very excited for this tournament. At the beginning of the year I didn't know if I'd say the women were ready to win the the SL. I thought there were a lot of forced shots, the young players were inexperienced, etc. But this team has kept improving, learning what they need to do to be successful. The development of the younger players is very encouraging. If it weren't for injuries, I'd have said the women would have been the heavy favorite, even before SDSU's injuries (let's not forget, Monica is Monica, Kyah was on the verge of a phenomenal freshman season and Hempe was turning into a big asset. The injuries to both USD and SDSU has leveled the playing field for other teams, but in the end, I think if the current USD team performs at their best, no one is beating them in the SL.

I have an eerie feeling that it won't be a USD/SDSU final this year. Not sure why, as it it seems pretty straight forward when you look at the matchups on paper. And that is concerning to me (and likely me only) because after the games in Brookings I felt very confident the Yotes would win in game 3 by a reasonably comfortable margin. But today I'm guessing one of us doesn't make it to Tuesday. Hope I'm wrong - State/U championship games are fun.

Pre-SLT press conference: LINK
Confirmed in interview: Chloe and Liv coming back next year (along with Hannah)! Look out, 2022 Summit! The three amigos will be back. Maybe 4 if Arens can make it work with her program. Quote from Liv: "I interviewed for some PT programs this Fall, so I was planning on doing that, ... but when I was given the opportunity to take another year, ... I couldn't pass that up. I get to be a "PT" (Physical Therapist) for the rest of my life, but I can only play college basketball with such a special group for so long. So I'd be dumb not to take the opportunity."

Argus article on Guebert also mentioned that Watson could be medically eligible (foot) for the SLT.....

I really feel like the team has missed Monica. She is just so darn tough and is a gamer. When it comes to the Summit tourney I swear the Jacks could be missing half their team and some how still win this darn thing. We have had better teams on paper and the Jacks just seem to be able to neutralize just about everything that the Coyotes do.
Lets face is the Summit League basically decided the champ by gifting the Jacks the home games head to head. If the games were in Vermillion it is a totally different outcome more than likely and the recent games in Vermillion are the evidence. I want to say that the Coyotes have won about 5 or 6 or 7 in a row in Vermillion. Last time they played in Vermillion the Jacks couldn't hang with the Coyotes what-so-ever. I guess the Summit didn't want to see their beloved Jacks get embarrassed again. I think the Jacks need to crowd more than the Coyotes do. Without it I really think it benefits the Coyotes but I am taking the Coyotes by the slimmest of margins 51-49 as far as percentages.

I hope the Yotes come out with some enthusiasm and energy to open a decent lead early. ORU didn't play since they were in Vermillion, so there may be some rust, and it would be nice to put their young team on the ropes early. I don't think this team plays particularly well with a 12+ point lead, but I would like to see some solid minutes from the non-starters to get the butterflies out.
