Omaha is playing with a great deal of confidence. They were simply a bad match up for SDSU, and both of their games (with Selland) came down to free throws in the final minute or two. That said, if you watched the two semifinal games today, you probably noticed there was a significant talent/athleticism difference between the two teams in the first game and the two teams in the second game. Anything can happen in a one game playoff, but it would take an amazing series of things going wrong for USD to fall in this game. I agree gopheryote. The first factor is that the Yotes have been in this position many times and Omaha hasn't. The Coyotes have taken many teams best games and keep on rolling. They have definitely dealt with teams that have brought the scrappy defensive game and have been able to get through except against SDSU on many occasions because they have more talented players. Of course Omaha can win but if the Coyotes play like they have in the fist two games there is almost no way the Mavericks touch them. In basketball anything can happen on any given night so this is not a sure thing but I would say a 90% chance of a win isn't too far off.

There is no way that the Coyotes are getting an at large over the Jacks. It isn't fair that the games were both in Brookings but the matter or fact is that the Jacks swept the Yotes head to head and have the better wins against better teams. Right now I do believe the Coyotes are better but for the balance of the season SDSU has been the better team and even as a Coyote fan I think it would be very unfair for the Yotes to get an at large bid over SDSU.
What could happen is that both get in with an Omaha win (although in that scenario I think the Yotes go to the WNIT) but I doubt neither would get in. SDSU is first in, but if the Coyotes win the Summit tourney the seeding would probably be close. I could see the Jacks and Yotes both being close to the 8/9 line. Before the tourney the Jacks probably had a 3 line advantage. What really hurts the Jacks is that they had a real chance to be a 6 seed which would have been nice. I do think even fully healthy that they would have been a bit over rated anyway. I don't think they have the roster depth and elite players that the Yotes had last year and the Coyotes were projected as a 6 or 7 seed. Last years Yotes teams was significantly better than this years fully healthy Jacks team.

Anything can happen in a one game playoff, but it would take an amazing series of things going wrong for USD to fall in this game. This is correct. If I was a betting man, I'd put a grand down on this game. Will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong. Coaches and players don't have the luxury of underestimating opponents, but I sure as hell will. I don't know what the hell happened to the Jacks, but we won't lose today. AJ said in the postgame that Omaha was always a bad matchup for his team, because they are one of the few teams that can challenge the paint from the Jacks, and for the Jacks to be successful, they have to do well in the paint (heavy paraphrasing). This goes back to the questions I have had for a couple of years now about SDSU guards. Both the number and quality of their guards. I respect AJ's coaching, and I think he has earned the COY award this year. They need to recruit some snipers in Brookings, though, and stop chasing the elusive and rare "true all-around" player that Ciara and Mayah are IMHO. I don't think he is a bad recruiter, but he seems to have fixated on size to some degree. You can't have a forward-dominated roster unless you can get 2 or 3 players like Myah, Macy, Ciara, or unless you have a true sniper like Maddie G. I have stopped posting about this mainly because AJ shut me up with his success this year in the regular season. He proved himself on the court. Back to the Yotes. The only way I see us losing, or even struggling, is if all three of Sjerven Lamb and Korngable get in early foul trouble, AND if Omaha can take away the paint, AND we have a bad arc-shooting game. All of those things would have to happen IMHO. Possible, but not likely.

I love all the confidence here, but I sure hope the team isn't in the same mentality as this board. I watched Omaha yesterday and you shouldn't look past anybody in March.
That being said, go show them they aren't in the same class.

That being said, go show them they aren't in the same class. One thing I noticed in the semi-final game: the Yotes seemed to play with fire and pride - a chip on their shoulder. It was like they took the close game in Vermillion last week personally, and they weren't going to let those friggin' bison think they 'have arrived'. I haven't seen that from this team all year. I suppose it is a natural flip-side to the the program's identity of not worrying about the opponent and just focus on yourself. Coming out and playing pissed off doesn't really follow from that mentality.

Tell that to Zimmer: I take your point, but we've been "cautiously optimistic" all season. Quite frankly I'm tired of it. This team is better than an NCAA 10-seed, and I'm pretty sure we will have that chance to show it. They are better now than a month ago. Better now then a week ago. Although I'd rather the Yotes have that third crack at the Jacks, they'll have earned that trophy either way.

Also: The game is televised by ESPNU, so we will have new commentators on that broadcast: Kevin Fitzgerald and Steffi Sorensen.

I do wish Midco was televising the game but the exposure ESPN brings has it's own pluses. With that being said - I'm muting it at the first "Ki-YO-tees".

So far it appears the refs are letting this game get more physical than the men's game. It's literally more physical, not just more physical for a women's game, it's actually more physical. I don't mind that at all. Omaha is scrappy.

That dominance we had in the first two games is just not there today. Yet. I don't know if it's them or us at this point. Our bread and butter points in the paint are either not falling or can't even be taken.

I have question do you think not having crowd for SLT has had effect on the games in that teams don't get as caught up in the runs of the game its more mental toughness of playing through adversities. I don't want to offend anyone here but in past with high number South Dakota fans at games helped carry both you and SDSU in past tournaments making it feel like home game has even playing field some for other teams of the Summit. Also do you think not playing them this year will have any effect on the game in my mind i would think it would favor you guys because they wouldn't have that learning curve to figure out how to beat more talented team and take advantage of what they have learned. I think if they have chance to beat you guys it will because you get into foul trouble with your front line because that is where there strength has been in this tournament. Wish you luck and i think its good to have Omaha in championship game it means conference overall is getting better because when 8 seed can reach the championship the gap between top and bottom is narrowing in the teams.
