That's awesome! I was hoping he would be taking over at Minnesota, or a different Big 10/12 school in the coming years, but I'm happy to see him move up to a power conference.

I'm a closeted Gophers fan, so I was hoping the same thing. It will be interesting to see the salary once the contract details are released. The fired coach was making $3.5m/year.

What was Smith making at USD? Like $200k? I hope that four years from now my salary has increased 15-fold.

I'm going to assume that he will take Austin and Pete with him to Utah and their salaries will also see a very nice bump.

I wonder how this is going to go over in Logan? They should be happy for having had him, just as I am. If they didn't expect a coach to leave after taking a team immediately from mediocrity to 3 NCAA appearances in 3 years then they aren't being realistic. Smith might have been gone last year if the pandemic didn't happen.

Edit: Just snuck a peak at the USU Aggie message board. Seems like they are not wishing him well in the slightest, a lot of which is based on the school he went to.

I guess I never put Utah and Utah State together. In my mind they aren't really peers, given that they generally compete on different stages (Mountain West vs. Pac 12).

Utah is a way better job than Minnesota. Going to Minneapolis is pretty much a no win situation for a coach and will almost certainly be a setback in that coaches career.
...and I am a Gopher fan unfortunately.

Kind of random, but if you watched the WBB Final Four last night you know the SLT isn't the only place this shift happens.
