I do have to say that I respect a good hurdler. That is one thing that is very hard to do without breaking stride. Congrats to that young man for being great at a very difficult event. Of course congrats to the pole vaulter as well. At USD we are poll vaulting.

For those that don't follow track and field much, there are two not-completely-synonymous ways to have a successfull program. The national qualifying and scoring systems makes it possible to be better nationally than in your own conference. Our men's team is a prime example of that. We have apparently shifted our focus to excelling in several events (pole vault, hurdles, and high jump) at the expense of having a deep, we'll rounded team. We no longer come close to winning conference championships, but are actually a perennial top 25 program thanks in part to a select few athletes. Personally, I'd rather go back to being more competitive at the conference level, but it is pretty cool that we are producing All Americans. I'm curious to know what others think.

I like the path they are following now. I'd rather have the national recognition. It seems we annually have more participants in outdoor regionals and indoor/outdoor national meets than the rest of the Summit combined. Just think it's more bang for your buck.

Well other than NDSU who can have the best throws team in the country and the best track team in the conference.

NDSU always seems to have a thrower or two in the regional and national meets, but I don't think they've had the number of total athletes overall that we've had the past few years. I'm to lazy look it up though.

They sent 4 men and 3 women this season. Their men finished 12th. Same number of men and women to 2019 outdoors (2020 was as you well you know cancelled). 3 women and one man to 2019 indoors.
