Part of that is the trickle down from the Covid year extra eligibility. Schools only get to expand their roster for one year, but if underclassmen are transferring, a lot of schools don’t have extra spots because they already have offers out to and acceptances from younger (high school) girls. They won’t have as much turnover in the ranks if players choose to take advantage of that extra year.

I was looking at your 2021-2022 roster see that you have kept most of your veteran players from last years team and have number of redshirt freshman on the team and number Freshman on the team will this be continuation of last year or are you in process of rebuilding for the future. I am asking this because it looks like veteran starters returning but bench will be primarily made up of Freshman. My next question is do you think you and SDSU are going to continue to dominate the Summit or with large changes happening to other programs in the conference were going to see where some these programs will be able to compete. Here at North Dakota we had massive change in players since end of the season with number of transfers as well as freshman recruits with our new coach stating we needed to get better players to compete in the conference. The question we have are these new players upgrade in talent and will be able to compete but it does appear several of these recruits looks to be upgrades. We also are hearing this from number of other of programs as well with changes to their personnel for the coming year. The question i do have is it personnel or is it the quality of coaching between the programs is the reason for the separation which i think is the difference. I think we will not be bottom the conference this coming year and maybe if things workout we can make some noise at conference tournament by end of the year.

I am asking this because it looks like veteran starters returning but bench will be primarily made up of Freshman. I have no inside information on how the coaches would answer this question, but, .... I think we are objectively in the best shape in the conference, depth-wise. Clearly having our "big three" of Sjerven, Lamb and Korngable back will be immediately huge for our 2021-22 season.
Our Freshman class last year seemed to be a really good one, with two immediate starters in PG Krull, and guard/forward Watson. Also some key contributors in Center Mazurek and guard/forward Hansen. All of these players should be better in year 2. Dawn's motion offense has a learning curve, so I'm expecting even bigger things from this group next season.
I like our true freshman class as well, with Grace Larkins coming in with the highest expectations. And really our sophomores, juniors and true seniors would be starters at most other Summit schools, too. I'm really excited to see what this group can do in 2021/22!My next question is do you think you and SDSU are going to continue to dominate the Summit or with large changes happening to other programs in the conference were going to see where some these programs will be able to compete. It does seem like many programs are losing some D-II players and adding some players from good D-I schools. And adding some size. I really hope you are right that those schools are upgrading talent, because a stronger Summit means a stronger NET score for everyone, which means multiple bids and better bids in the post-season. Time will tell, though. NDSU has made a huge step in coaching and in results. He seems to be recruiting well, too. But I wouldn't count on a fall from grace from either SD program. As much as I'd rather see just the Yotes on top, I've been pretty impressed with A.J.'s recruiting in the current and next few classes. They aren't going anywhere. The question i do have is it personnel or is it the quality of coaching between the programs is the reason for the separation which i think is the difference. I think we will not be bottom the conference this coming year and maybe if things workout we can make some noise at conference tournament by end of the year. This is always the chicken-or-egg question in every sport. It might be easy to say that some programs are just better because they get better recruits, and the coaching element is a lesser factor. And that is true to some extent. Once you get a winning culture going, it sustains itself like inertia. But I think that both AJ and Dawn have proven their coaching chops in the past. Both of them have won D-II national championships early in their careers. And the coaches have a large hand in creating that culture that self-sustains, too. So the answer is both, of course.
And that is not to say that losing programs in the Summit don't have good coaching. JD Gravina at Western and Misti Cussen at ORU have both proven to be great coaches whos' programs just have a hard time getting and keeping elite talent. I never underestimate either of them to come up with an upset win. And Collins at NDSU has been an outstanding "builder" in a relatively short period of time. Same with Banks at Omaha this last year. I think there are lots of very good coaches in this league that just need to get a foothold on the recruiting front, and get some signature wins. I'd prefer those signature wins come in the non-conference, of course

Added that, and a couple more updates. Looks like most transfers are going D-II.

If you look at Raoul’s list for the transfer portal, of over 1000 young ladies who entered the portal, 40% have not announced new schools. This is going to be really tough, because schools are not obligated to take back players who have announced their intention to transfer. Some may be able to return, but many of them may end up going D2, D3, NAIA, etc. D1 has roster size limits (which were only extended for this one year), but many of those lower levels do not. There could be some tough competition there for the next 2 or 3 years!

Also, note that several of my recent updates were discovered doing a google search, and I found it in the athlete's twitter account. Many of them never made a formal announcement, and didn't even tweet about it. They just listed their new school in the twitter heading/title. So that may be the case that of that 40%, some of them have found landing spots but haven't "announced" it. I'm just glad we haven't seen any attrition. Should be a deep squad this Fall!

Mackenzie Rogers is transferring from WIU to D3 Loras College. She is a 5’8 Jr Guard from Mediapolis, Iowa. Looking at the Western Illinois site, it appears that she only played 31 minutes over 10 games, and was not an impact player.

Just updated the list, and added a bunch of incoming transfers to UND, ORU, KC and St Thomas. Most are from D-II and JC schools. I found the info on the teams' twitter accounts.
Looks like UND is trying to find a true PG, or just good guards in general, and St. Thomas and KC are trying to add size.
I have to think that UST will get clobbered this first couple seasons in this league in most sports, but who knows? Just having Summit Schools play in MSP will be an exciting opportunity for both parties.
