When it comes to women's sports, it feels like the NCAA needs to do a major overhaul on leadership, vision, marketing, tournaments. Basically all of it. Not having locker rooms is beyond ridiculous - that immediately disqualifies that location as an option. Omaha has several places to play that already house college VB. Then they decide to not have announcers for the first two rounds? What the... I get the feeling that right now with the big financial hit they took from Covid, the NCAA is trying to "go cheap" on every sport they can get away with doing so. They are banking on (pun intended) a lack of pushback in lower-profile sports. Hopefully coaches with clout will speak out. The NCAA is a joke. They exist to make money on the backs of amateur athletes under the guise of protecting their best interests. Would love to see the P5 conferences get together and demand some changes be made.

Also this: (Kelly Sheffield is the HC of #1-seed Wisconsin) I can confirm there will be no announcer/broadcast crews on location for at least the first 2 rounds. I know the radio crew will be watching on a screen in Vermillion and broadcasting from there. It's possible the tweet meant there won't be any broadcast crew in person at the tournament but the ESPN "analysts" will be off-site adding commentary from there. Similar to what we saw during football where the announcers were clearly not at the stadium and had done little to no prep work prior to the broadcast. Not to beat a dead horse, but there won't be any announcers for the first two rounds. As in there will either be no sound at all on the broadcast, or it will just be arena noise. No announcers. Because, and I quote from a statement from the NCAA, "there is no requirement to produce coverage of or provide commentary in the first and second rounds..." Several people looked at that statement and thought it was a good idea before sending it out to the public.

This video feature from VolleyballMag.com is a great feature on the Yotes. It includes interviews with Weideman, Juhnke, Jurgens & Slaughter. All 4 of them were very well spoken and great representatives of USD. The individual conducting the interview has a lot of good things to say about USD and commented several times about the Denver match being one for the ages. It is well worth the 11 minutes or so it takes to watch from start to finish.

Here's a link to the VolleyTalk site's match thread for our first-round match: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/84277/mizzou-south-dakota-14-espn3It is a proboards site just like this one, so the interface is the same. That site is basically the main pan-volleyball fan site in the country, so there are a lot of posters there and they are mostly all very knowlegable VB fans. People are taking notice of the Yotes this year for five reasons: 1. The 2019 snub, and the run through the NIVC to the championship match. 2. The upset of Creighton this year. 3. The insane SLT Championship reverse-sweep match. (there were a lot of eyeballs on that match). 4. The matchup with Missouri is seen by many as one of the best opportunities for a first-round upset. 5. Sami Slaugher is well-known and well-loved by Husker fans (which make up a large portion of pan-volleyball fans)

No lie - my daughter's 13U team plays in better VB-friendly, multi-court locations every weekend, and they don't go more than 2 hours away from Sioux Falls.

Using the same locker rooms the football team had to use a few years ago when they played Nichols State in the FCS playoffs

I'm not sure if Omaha had anything to do with it, but it looks bad for the city as well. Might as well just have it at the Pentagon. Can get just as many courts going and they are actual wood floors. Omaha has several multi-court volleyball clubs in town. Couldn't they use those? I'm sure the clubs would like the exposure and to have the tournament teams and coaches in their facilities. This whole operation looks like a hastily thrown together club tournament.

Preview of Florida/ Ohio State subregion (with USD).
Brian does a good job (although he calls Harms a "right side" blocker?). I don't ever want to give him too much grief, though. The guy is assigned to ALL USD sports, and ALL State High School sports. Plus some other stuff, likely.

The Yotes' match will be on UNO's Taraflex floor layed over sport court over padding. The NCAA "borrowed" those taraflex floors from Omaha, Nebraska, Creighton and one other nearby program after many coaches were upset about the sport court over cement plan. The NCAA insists this was the plan all along, and previous reports were wrong, but that is not the case.
At any rate, our team will now get to play on a proper (and less dangerous) court. Yay?
