Brian Haenchen leaving the Argus

I guess this was posted a couple of months ago, but apparently I've had my head under a rock this summer.  Anyone know (or care) who the replacement will be?  I thought he had done a fine job, considering he was tasked with both SD HS sports AND USD.

I wonder if the next person will have the same responsibilities, or if they will just drop the charade and not have a USD person at all.  Maybe Zimmer will have to cover both schools.  Who knows.

I don't think anyone is surprised by this as he was tasked with an enormous amount of responsibility. The Argus will hire some young, eager person trying to build a resume and get experience, run 'em ragged for a year or two and then they'll move on. Rinse repeat.

Brian is moving to Indianapolis to work for the Star. I'm sure it's a good opportunity for him.

Incidentally, our new guy used to work for the Indianpolis Star. It seems he was an intern there. A little different role, but a trade nonetheless.

Brian will be missed - he had a huge coverage load, but has a knack at to tell a story with empathy and interest as opposed to cranking out gamers. Hope the new guy finds his voice too.

Case in point, the article that posted today. Not many sports writers would take the time to tell that story (doesn't involve the SF schools or USD/SDSU).

Didn't want to start a new thread about Zim in the USD forum, but this is definitely news...

This tangentially is related to Argus USD coverage, since the Argus will probably have to re-shuffle sports coverage duties again.  Will they hire someone to replace Zim and cover the Jacks, or just add that to McCleary's duties?  What a mess.

I would guess this ends up with more stories about USD, as Zimmer will cover both schools. That said, I'm guessing the Gannett trainwreck won't add to the Argus staff, so McCleary will become SDSU/High School/then USD.
