Good stuff, nodak! Thanks for posting. I hope you are correct with the Hockey conference ties being possibly a stabilizing factor.
I’d hope that the new commissioner recognizes the unique benefit we have had with MidcoSN coverage. Maybe he could figure out a way to merge that with coverage of other Summit programs outside of the Dakotas. Or like you said, to negotiate with ESPN for more coverage.

What the summit league needs is a commissioner who can elevate the leagues profile. Think MVC of the old days. And from what I’ve heard and read is that the new guy is capable of doing that. The biggest thing is that people don’t know much about our schools and programs. We now have schools in 3 large markets but we don’t capitalize on it. Midco is a great provider but it services a very small area. The only way for us to gain the attention of recruits and fans is to expose them to the schools and league via social media and through the media. I credit Douple he stabilized the league, but now it’s time to grow its profile.
Side thought, I might be in the minority here but I really like the current throwback logo. Is there any possibility we could have the new commissioner keep that one instead?

Kinda agree with yote18 in that I'm not certain how much more Midco can do, but Fenton definitely is definitely aware of Midco, as they broadcast and aired all of the NCHC games in their covid pod: www.nchchockey.com/news_article/show/1133253 "The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) has partnered with Midco Sports Network to produce and broadcast all 40 games in the NCHC Pod, live from the University of Nebraska Omaha’s Baxter Arena. All Pod broadcasts from Dec. 1-20 will be available on NCHC.tv to active subscribers, as well as on linear television on MidcoSN." Edit: Midco does have a small footprint in Kansas City.. anyone know how many people they service down there and are they expanding that service area at all? I think they used to do some stuff for the University of Kansas if I remember correctly.

One has to remember that Comcast has a significant equity stake (around 50%) in MIDCO. Comcast's reach is what they need to leverage.

Comcast has picked up Midco games in the past, most recently the Gophers vs UND hockey game, broadcast on Midco, was aired on comcast special event channel 999 in the twin cities. Mankato also has/had a bunch of (non midco) games that aired on that comcast channel as well. Perhaps there is potential there for Summit Leage games.

Not sure if anyone caught the reaching the summit podcast with the SL commissioner. But it’s pretty interesting!
There was a discussion on summit football, but it was ultimately a non-starter according to him. But of interest was that adding hockey wasn’t out of the question. He said if South Dakota could manage to add a hockey team it would help be a viable option. Which made me question which SD school would he be referring to. USD and SDSU can’t afford a hockey team on top of the other sports, Augie is an option I guess and wouldn’t have any competition from the state U’s.
(Wishful thinking here) But If the summit were to sponsor hockey I’d like to see a west river school sponsor D1 hockey. Rapid city just built the new arena and I think a D1 hockey team would thrive out there.

Just to clarify the new addition added to the civic center complex here in RC is to draw crowds for larger 10000 seat events primarily concerts. The complex already has a 4000 seat hockey arena home of the RC Rush (ECHL two levels below NHL) and yes hockey is popular here.
New addition also will have indoor fb this spring--the Marshalls.

I wonder what the actual budget would be to run a 1st class hockey program.
Salaries Scholarships Travel Administrative Operating
I’d be curious

Not to derail any Summit Hockey discussion (a very interesting topic), but I wanted to mention that I'm noticing a bunch of Summit announcements of Corporate partners of the SLT. I suppose that it is a pretty routine thing this time of year to renew partnerships and add new ones, but I'm wondering if the new commish is doing a good job as it relates to these sponsors/partners. Seems like a lot of renewals since Fenton's hiring:
12-3 Fenton hire announced
12-7 YellowJacket Landscaping 12-8 Sanford Health 12-9 Paradigm Construction 12-14 US Bank 12-16 Benjamin Moore 12-21 Marsh McLennon 12-22 Scooters Coffee 12-23 TicketSmarter (new) 12-28 FurnitureMart 12-29 Eide Bally 12-30 CorTrust Bank 1-4 Jans Corp 1-5 Let It Fly (new) 1-6 Wermerson Orthodontics (new) 1-11 Pioneer
The new Orthodontics partnership is an interesting thing:
"The partnership will be a first for the Summit League Basketball Championships, as over 600 fifth-grade students from area schools have been invited to the Monday afternoon session on behalf of Wermerson Orthodontics. Throughout the basketball season, students will also have the opportunity to connect with Summit League basketball teams and be involved in various basketball activities to learn more about the sport of basketball."
The Monday afternoon session is the two women's semifinals.

The SL is changing formats to include all 10 teams, starting in 2023. Friday will have a "play in" round with 7/10 and 8/9 playing each other. The remaining format seems exactly the same. Tough run to be in that game and then play the 1/2 seed the following day.
St Thomas will be included. Really curious how they handle the possibility of them winning the tournament. Give the autobid to the regular season champ? Give it to loser of the tournament final?

This one includes a (frustrating) note on ticketing. Even with all the new members of the past few years... It just feels to me that we (Sioux Falls) are giving reasons for member schools to rotate the tourney to different locations, when all we need to do is re-seat the arena every couple of years.

I don't follow what the frustrating note on tickets is. It had already been known that renewals are done for, but that as a consolation to standing two-year ticket holders that they would get first crack at tickets in 2023.
I don't think that it's necessary to have a pre-sale like that, but I'm guessing the SF Sports Authority and league office anticipated an ocean of whining from some fans.
