Getting the thread started....
Fri, Sep 17 7PM ---@ Wichita State Sat, Sep 18 12PM vs. Creighton Sat, Sep 18 4PM --vs Wyoming
Creighton is a top-25 team this year, and Wichita State is 5-1 and looking like a great team. All three opponents will be a challenge, so we will see how far we have come in meeting the potential of the considerable talent on this team....

I'm not a big moral victories guy, but we really need to at least play these games tight. With the right mindset, this team can be special. It's a good thing that mindset is one thing we've never lacked under Williamson.

Massey's predictions are a little off right now I think. Small amount of data so far, and incorporating last year's data is problematic due to the F'd up season. So
here are Massey's predictions:
L @ Wichita State 1-3 L vs Creighton 0-3 W vs Wyoming 3-1
Here are my predictions:
W @ Wichita State 3-2 L vs Creighton 0-3 W vs Wyoming 3-0

Here is #43 Wichita State's detailed record, using rankings from the RPI futures prediction:
W vs. #269 UT Martin 3-0 W vs. #47 Missouri State 3-0 W --@ #92 Arkansas State 3-2 L --@ #30 Kansas 0-3 W vs #211 Kent State 3-1 W vs #130 Delaware 3-2
Looks like their best performance was sweeping Missouri State, worst might be dropping sets to Kent State and Delaware. Hard to say if we will get their best shot, but I'll hope for a close win. We will need to show improvement in consistency/communication/passing for that to happen I think. This will be a good opponent to see where we are.

Communication and consistency comes naturally with good passing. The times we’ve been exposed is when we can’t pass the ball. That’s a mindset. If they stumble they’ve lost their composure which is somewhat natural. Real good teams fight through it. We are really well coached. I expect we’ll fight through it. When? Hopefully this weekend.
I’ll be happy if we come out of this 2-1. Tickled actually. I do want the Creighton match to go 5…win or lose. That would make a statement.

After watching KU and UMKC last night, Wichita getting swept by Kansas doesn't look good. I wasn't impressed with Kansas.

Kansas went from being a total nobody 20 years ago in volleyball to being an NCAA participant for a number of years. I don’t follow them closely now but did a few years ago. I also watched the match and if the Coyotes could pass just normal we win that match. That’s why you play. UMKC coach is sorta nuts like Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s was in Vermillion. My wife remembered her. No fun to play for.
Well, we tee it up tonight at 7. I think Leanne’s goal is to now get a little better every match. IF we can give Creighton a good test tomorrow I’d say we’re inching back to where we finished last year. I agree, if Kansas swept Wichita then we should beat them as well.

Gameday tweet with links: From the ARTICLE:WICHITA STATE The Shockers are 5-1 on the season, losing only to Kansas, and boosts the top hitting percentage in the American Athletic Conference at .252 as well as ranking second in league in opponent hitting percentage at .174. Kailin Newsome, a freshman transfer from Southeastern Louisiana, leads the way at 3.26 kills per set. She's recorded double-doubles in three of her last four matches and comes in off an 18-kill, 14-dig performance in a five-set win over Delaware. Sophia Rolling, a returning all-conference performer, averages 2.39 kills per set while Lauren McMahon is at 2.14. Libero Lilly Liekweg averages 4.83 digs per set, second in the American Conference. Head coach Chris Lamb, a 22-year veteran, collected win No. 450 against Delaware. Wichita State and South Dakota are meeting for the fifth time in school history. The Shockers have won the previous four meetings, two coming in 1983 and then during the Division I era in 2013 and last season.

Kansas went from being a total nobody 20 years ago in volleyball to being an NCAA participant for a number of years. Fun fact: Anezka Szabo, a lefty RS hitter from Sioux Falls (Lincoln) plays for Kansas now. She had played for Nebraska as a freshman and sophomore.

After watching KU and UMKC last night, Wichita getting swept by Kansas doesn't look good. I wasn't impressed with Kansas. I asked the WSU fans on Volleytalk how good they thought the team was, and one interesting thing I learned is that in the last tournament (vs. Kansas, Delaware, Kent State) they were without 4 to 6 players that had been playing previously. Nobody knows if it was Covid related or a coach's decision. Could have been disciplinary or injury related. Who knows? Either way, that could have been a big factor in the WSU-Kansas match. Sounds like WSU is in a similar spot to the Yotes. They also missed their first weekend due to Covid, and are a high potential team that they don't know what to make of yet. The difference might be that they are also filled with youth, where we are a more experienced team. Should be fun to watch. ESPN+

Anyone else notice that Jadyn Jondle seemed to get more playing time at DS in our last match vs Milwaukee? If Coach W is trying different players out at DS that might explain some inconsistency in passing.

Good battle but tough loss. Self- inflicted problems it seemed like. Poor hitting percentage and passing. Bounce back tomorrow.
Go Yotes
