Not to underestimate any opponents, but our next three opponents are the bottom tier of the conference. And we play them all at home. Hopefully Coach W will be able to use this time to figure out and fix what is holding us back from being the best team in the league. The talent is there, and there is time to make adjustments.
Thursday Oct 7 7:00 PM vs. St. Thomas (Pentagon)
Saturday Oct 9 10:30 AM vs. Western Ill
Monday Oct 11 7:00 PM vs North Dakota

Get your tickets! I hope they will be using the new TaraFlex floor the Pentagon bought for the Summit League Tournament last Spring. TaraFlex over a wood sprung floor is a really ideal setup for volleyball. Looks nice, too.

This is reaching out to the Coyote fan base in SF that say it’s just to far to go to a match in Vermillion. This is your opportunity to see a very good team in action. No excuses.

Coach Williamson said yesterday that over 1,300 tickets have been sold so far for the Pentagon match. Will be an amazing atmosphere, I'm sure. The capacity is around 3,000, so the final number should be well over half-full. Maybe a sellout? One thing to keep in mind for seating is that, unlike in basketball, end seating isn't bad to watch from. You can still enjoy a volleyball match from pretty much any angle. So pack it in.

Tonight will be my first in-person VB game of the year. They haven't seemed to be as aggressive as the past few years - part of me wonders if we are over-thinking what the other team is doing to limit Juhnke or Slaughter. Hope to see them come out swinging (literally) tonight.

Coyotes sweep in front of 1835 fans! Great atmosphere! It was fun to see the bench players get some rotations in the final set. Their teammates went crazy when they got a dig or kill. Fun stuff

I saw the last set on TV. Nice win but an expected "taking care of business" win.

The back row really struggled in the first set. Not just in getting balls to the setter in a position to make a play, but also just not getting to balls or being way out of position. Some personnel changes were made, but that seemed to leave Juhnke playing back-middle during the rotation. In basketball speak, that is like having your high-scoring power forward also bring the ball up the court.
Unrelated - The size and strength of the Yotes compared to St. Thomas was truly amazing. Going D3 to D1 is a huge jump, so it will take some recruiting classes, but it was striking. I felt bad for UST.

On paper UND is a very good matchup for the Yotes. Our main weakness have been in passing (digs) and serve-receive. UND is worst in the conference in aces per set (1.0) and digs per set allowed (18.65).
I'll guess and say we have a good match. It would surprise me to see the Hawks eclipse 15 points in any set.
*edit: although the F-Hawks are winless in conference, they have only been swept twice (by ORU and Omaha). I still am anticipating a sweep, but UND could have a few tricks hidden up their green polyester sleeves...

Yotes allowed just 3 aces, and collected 53 digs in 3 sets. Basically right in line with UND’s average, which is a good sign for the Yotes, I think.
