Similar to the "Get Right" week, this will be a "stay right" week. The challenge will be to not look ahead to the following big home matches against Denver and Omaha. Leanne will keep them focused, with her "going 1-and-o" mantra, but as a fan, I have a hard time not looking past these two teams:
Thurs, Nov 4 @7pm @ Western Illinois
Sat, Nov 6 @3pm @ St. Thomas
bonus: both matches will have free streams, unlike when we play in Denver, Brookings, Fargo or Grand Forks.

I suppose since this is the second time we will have played these two teams, it is reasonable to compare results:
vs. WIU:
25-14 25-20 25-18
vs. UST:
25-21 25-11 25-18
In both previous matches, we had an early set that got too competitive, and in both matches we subbed bench players liberally in the final points of the final set. I'd be very happy if we can keep them both under 15 points a set in the first two, and have the opportunity for bench subs in the third again. That would show some progress in consistency.

I agree with the expectation of destroying them in the first two sets then letting subs gain meaningful experience in the third set. It's a little cocky, but if we drop the third set with this approach, no big deal.

Just last weekend I was talking with a parent of one of the USD starters while watching warm up for the match. We got to talking about some of the non starters and how they were really pounding the ball. ( watch warm up sometime... theres a reason the girls are on the team). All that some of these players are missing is the actual playing time, as they have the skills. I would really like a repeat to happen in these games.....so they can get some playing time in. With a big graduation class this year ( i have heard of 1 accepting her covid year) itd be good to see them playing with the juniors who theyll be on the court with next year. Plus itd give some rest for next weeks huge matches.

... With a big graduation class this year ( i have heard of 1 accepting her covid year)... This is an interesting aspect. On the WBB team they have already indicated who they (USD) will offer an additional year of elligibility to, and who they will not (based on whether they are considered a RS Freshman, etc.). For the VB team, the roster lists everyone as if they had used up a year of eligibility during the Covid year, based on their status. I had assumed that that meant nobody (other than Slaughter this year) will be getting that extra year honored here. Of course, all the athletes that played last year will still have an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA if they choose to use it. It seems apparent that not all of them will be allowed to play that extra year here at USD, though. I assume they have to pick and choose because of limits on # scholarships (after this year), and the need to honor existing scholly offers. In Volleyball it is even more tight with scholarships, because D-1 is a head-count sport with a 12-scholly limit. That means that four of the current roster are walk-ons.

interesting indeed, as Ive also heard of 2 current Juniors who plan on a covid year yet in their future here. I dont know enough about the rules and regulations to be an expert on how all this covid year business works out. I would imagine the coaches DO know exactly what can and cant be done. I would also venture to guess they DO know who is contemplating taking it, so as they recruit they know what positions to seek. Hmmmm, im sure not gonna name the athletes I heard with all this gray area. My guess is we will hear an announcement from the sports dept at the end of season.

Yeah, probably wise to keep it under your hat. The program doesn't even advertise which VB players are on scholarship and who is not, even in a normal year (non-covid). I know that Bollweg is a walk-on only because she herself mentioned it in an interview about the sponsorship she got. Not that it's a secret, just that they don't go out of their way to advertise who is not on scholarship. I'd guess that the WBB program and the VB program each have some planned "extended year" kids and some not, but the WBB program just chose to reflect that on the roster designations of year/class, and VB did not.

I see per their schedule, St Thomas plays on Friday night against the Jacks then less than 24 hours later have to play the Yotes. Not an envious schedule.

Yotes sweep, winning last set 25-17.
Looks like lots of service and receiving errors 🙁

The Coyotes might be prone to a letdown this weekend looking forward to Denver and Omaha at home. IMO any sweep is a good sweep.

The Yotes lost the first set but rallied to win the match 3-1. Maybe not as easy as some may have expected but a weekend sweep and business taken care of.

Yesterday was senior day. The college posted a picture of the seniors....and 1 junior. As we have learned, Brooklyn B. is heading off to Law School. What the picture also had was the lack of 1 senior. It hasnt come out in type yet, but could Weideman be the one taking a covid year?
