The defense has held nicely but at the same time their is kind of a lid on the Drake basket. The O is getting a bit stale in the 2nd half. Still a 19 point lead but Drake is playing much better.

Larkins with 2 nice defensive play. She ripped the ball right out of someone's hand for a steal. They her active hands created another turnover.
52-28 with less than 2 left in the 3rd.

The Yotes have gotten lack a daisical and now it is carrying over to the defensive end. About 4 coyotes just stood and watch one player for Drake hustle to make an easy offensive rebound. It is down to a 13 point lead.

Yotes stemming the tide and up 17 with less than 4 to go. I am not gonna blame the Yotes for getting a bit lazy. They had such an easy time getting a big lead that it is just natural to let up.

The game is over and it goes in the win column by a score of 61-46. This was a very nice performance. For all the Grace Larkins fans (and I am one of them) that haven't seen her play much are going to have good reason to be fans. She is showing a lot of promise. She is going to be a 2 way player as well. Those types are never bad to have on a team.
It was nice to see Krull and Watson have good games as well. Of course the big 3 are the big 3. If I am forgetting about anyone my apologies. I wouldn't put much stock in the second half and I will explain below.
I have kind of seen a trend in these types of games that I am gonna give the title "The 20 Point Syndrome". For any team that has a 20 point or more second half lead is going to tend to let off the gas by nature. The other teams may get some energy from this as well. It is usually a combo of the leading team letting up and the trailing team not giving up. Once a team gets a 20 point second half lead the game is all but over. I would say a 95% chance of better of a win.
It drives me nuts that fans of particular teams that are trailing that much are so happy about their team not giving up. I say hogwash. What the heck were they doing behind by 20 in the first place. Typically the team coming back is the lesser team. If the Coyotes were down by 20 (typically the men) and had to make a furious rally I don't get why so many people give them a pass if they only lose by single digits. They gave themselves a 95% chance to lose in the first place. Where was that same energy earlier in the game.
If I were a Drake fan today I would say the same. Who cares about a comeback unless it results in a win.
This was a very nice performance by the Women. They basically made Drake look like Iowa Community College today. They had absolutely no answer for the Coyotes on both ends of the court. Sjerven was like the immovable wall on defense.
Were the Coyotes that good or was Drake just that bad. I say the answer is in the middle somewhere but definitely swaying towards the Coyotes being good. Drake did not look like the same team that nearly beat the Coyotes in the SCSC a couple years ago when Monica saved the day.

Now hopefully everyone can stop their wailing and gnashing of teeth and step away from the ledge. Coyotes looked good tonight...on the road...against a good team.

Big win against a quality opponent! Drake just came off a win over Creighton too. Sjerven dominated. Everyone did something good to contribute. Future is bright.

It just didn't or does not make much sense for the same basic team to continue to play "not their best" for too long and I guess this is the evidence tonight how good the Coyotes are. The Virgin Island games will be vital. If they sweep those games and take care of most other business in the non conference than we can talk at large again or at least talk about getting a higher seed. Even 2 out of 3 on the Islands would be ok. I think they do need to win at least 2 of those though.
The Jacks got hammered pretty good by Iowa State today (by 19). They now have 2 losses as well. @ #14 Iowa State and @mississipi State who is unranked with no votes received. I would say their home win vs Green Bay isn't as good as the Coyotes road win at Drake. So it looked like the Jacks had the early edge but that has now vanished.

I couldn't watch the game, but looking at the box score: First Half: 40 points Second Half: 21 points Obviously, 21 points in a half is not a lot of points. What happened?

I was only able to watch the first quarter, listen to the second, then I was at a parent Coach meeting at the HS. Seems like a hell of a lot of turnovers though.

In the second half, the calls changed a little bit. They started calling offensive fouls on very minor things. Plus, Drake started clogging up the lane, causing some turnovers. The girls adjusted, though, and pulled it out.

The girls adjusted, though, and pulled it out. I can understand our opponents having that strategy (clogging the lane), since we have scored very well in the paint the last couple of years. If we are having a bad arc-shooting day, we could be in trouble in that situation. Although, Chloe and Liv have decent mid-range games. Hard to defend some of Liv's jump shots.

It wasn't really a half thing. It was an explosive first quarter followed by three of meh. Still a nice win (Drake isn't as good as they've been).

The main thing was that they had three turnovers in the first quarter and 19 in the next three. If they get shots up, they'll be ok. But they're phenomenally underwater on the A/TO ratio after three games and that will have to get better as the season goes on. You can't be a mediocre three-point shooting team and turn the ball over that much more than you find your teammates for buckets and expect to beat good teams.

One thing that I thought was truly impressive about the performance last night was Watson's work on Berg defensively. Kyah is no joke defensively. At all.
