I get that mistakes are all over the game of football but we did everything we could to lose that game…. I just don’t understand running zone plays out of the gun with 4th and inches. We did the same at Missouri State with 1st and goal from the one. Do we not have a QB sneak under center? The substitution debacle at the end of the game was … embarrassing. Missed FG’s? There is still a clean game out there for us. We will need it next week! Go Yotes!!

Definitely need to go under center on 4th and inches. Been proven way too many times.

I watched the play from yesterday again. That really was a disaster. At least one guy just jumped over our line. A handoff up the middle from the gun is suicide in those circumstances.

There is still a clean game out there for us. We will need it next week! Go Yotes!! The Coyotes did not play a perfect game but this SDSU team is an Elite, I will say that again an ELITE FCS program. They know how to win and they have been in these tight games and have won a lot of them. The Coyotes are a good team but are still a little new to this level of good play. The kind of jump the Coyotes are making this year is quite astounding. If we are complaining about short yardage situations I get it, they probably could have done some things different, but this team has been doing a very good job of play calling so far this year. If we are worried about the short yardage strategy imagine being on the Jackrabbit side of things. Usually the Coyotes are the ones wondering what went wrong that actually led to a loss. The Jacks had the game won and completely mismanaged the last couple of minutes of the game. Their whiney fans are having a coronary this weekend and half of them are going through quadrouple bipass surgery on Monday. The bottom line is the Yotes played a heck of a game and went head to head with an elite program. They held their own on the lines and actually had pretty good success against one of the toughest defenses in the country to run against. If the Coyotes can run against the Jacks or Bison they can run against anyone in the nation. The Coyotes have done a great job of being balanced and what a warrior Carson Camp is. He was completely banged up and barely avoided getting sacked on the last play. Many point to the catch and fairly so but without Camp being talented the pass doesn't get off or doesn't get close to the end zone. If the Coyotes don't play a really nice game they aren't in the position to even have a chance at a miracle finish. I felt that the game was pretty much a 50-50 game and before the last pass the yards were almost even. Late in the 4th quarter where it looked like a loss was gonna happen I kept thinking to myself that this Coyote team absolutely passes the eye test but they needed the resume to match it. If they didn't win the game the resume may or may not have been good enough but whether home or road no team is gonna want to play this South Dakota team in the playoffs. Well someone is gonna get that task.

Coyote Fan: Very well said! Doesn’t matter how you win, as long as you get the W. This is one will now be in Coyote lore. Lots of plays that coulda, woulda, shoulda but in the end we made that one spectacular play to end it, better to be lucky than good.
Go up to Fargo, compete your tail off, and see if you can steal one in the FargoDome. Not sure who we will get in the 1st round, but this is not a team I would want to draw that early in the playoffs. Tough defense, ability to run the ball effectively, and QB/WR that can hit a home run if left 1 on 1. Scary draw!

This weekend was just another example of how the Football team has been carrying this athletic dept for years. The women's basketball team got whipped on Friday, the men got smoked on Sunday, the volleyball team gets beat by UNO, but we can always count on our football team to come through. If we were only going to get one of these games this weekend I'm sure glad we got the one that we did. That would have been a really frustrating one to lose, with the missed FG's and getting stopped late on 4th and inches in FG range. We deserved that win. It shouldn't have had to come down to a hail mary, but the fact that it did made it all the more sweeter. I'm hoping we can bounce back and play a good game next week. I remember after the Minneapolis Miracle (before the NFC Championship game against the Eagles) they showed how teams had done the following week in the playoffs after a walkoff victory. The record was pretty bad and in fact I think most teams had gotten blown out, as the Vikings went on to do. I'm hoping that doesn't happen to the Yotes. Hopefully the guys won't be celebrating that play all week and will get their focus on NDSU.

This is just a really confusing statement. Football generally has been the one sport you can't count on for a W. Football could carry the athletic department. I think everyone knows football is king in college athletics. That's why we spend so much more money on it than any other sport.

Agreed…. They will be a tough draw for any team. You look at their 3 losses and they were one play/call from winning those games. I just think they haven’t played that clean game yet. It’s coming. But the 4th and inches needs to be addressed. Makes no sense when you are allowed assistance of push once the ball is snapped. Snapping it 4 yards back to get 6 inches will never be understood. The substitution debacle was actually an ingenious play by SDSU at the end of the game… sprinting out a receiver as to look like he’s coming out of game but he stopped just before going to sidelines… which appeared to be a substitution and USD sent out their heavy package thinking they had a free substitution…. And caught us.

The walk off curse is alive and well, unfortunately.
