'Yotes host Tennessee State today in what could be a very similar game to the recent Southern contest. Looks like they bring a lot of offense and not too much defense onto the court, although their season stats may be skewed a bit after they laid 111 points on something called Fisk. Might make for an interesting afternoon.

First initial thoughts; I know this team gets overlooked by so many programs within USD, the women's team, the vb team, the football team mainly, and there are a lot of question marks surrounding this team. However, this was a fun game to watch them win. Too many fouls from Tenn State to let the flow go smoothly and the start was ugly. But it was still a good test to see our composure and who would step up. Tenn State was super athletic and I was worried their pressure was going to really wreck havoc, but I knew they wouldn't be able to keep shooting at a 75% clip. Once we got settled in, I was very impressed with the ball movement, even when we'd miss good looks.
This team works their tales off. If you like hustle, hard nosed defense and great ball movement, you need to check this men's team out. Kruz and Mason were stellar tonight and Hunter is a much welcomed addition back. Boogie has a motor that almost goes too fast at times, but he's entertaining to watch.
I don't know if they'll be good enough to compete at the top of the Summit, but I know one thing, they're going to give everything they've got to make it interesting.
Nice win Yotes!

I'll echo the same thing. This team plays extremely hard and is fun to watch. After seeing Tennessee State warm up, I didn't know if we'd be able to match up with them size wise or even athlete wise. Then we go and significantly out rebound them and did a good job handling their press. With the way they play defense I think they'll compete in every game. It really is a fun team to watch.

Mason and Kruz were incredible from the FT line neting 26 of 28 and the Yotes as a team shot 80%. D tightened up a lot in the 2nd half. Was a true team effort and the bench again contributed 17 pts as they did against Southern. Was a fun game to watch!!

I did not watch the game but was pleasantly surprised when I saw we scored 83 points. I was thinking we must have shot the ball pretty well. When I first looked at the box score I thought it was a mistake. We shot 19-46 from 2 and 6-20 from 3. I read that and was wondering how the hell did we score 83 points. When I looked up the box score from a different site I got my answer. It looks like we knocked down a lot of FT's. We were 39-49 from the line. We must have been shooting FT's about every time down the court. I'm glad we were as it looks like we weren't shooting very well again from the field, but that had to make for a tough watch. Was there a pretty tight whistle or were they having a tough time staying with our guys?

I don't know the answer to this because I am admittedly not basketball literate, but if you take a shot from the field and miss but draw a foul call on the shot does it still go on the stats as a miss from the field? Like, 0/1 from the field but going to the line for foul shots? If so, wouldn't that explain the low shooting percentage from the field? Tough to make a basket when you're getting fouled every time.

I don't think a missed shot counts as a shot if they are fouled in the process. Although if you make it while getting fouled it does count as a made shot. So players that drive to the basket to draw fouls a lot end up with a high shooting %. I could be wrong, but that has been my understanding. Here's a quote from an article (not an official source) "If a player is taking a shot and is fouled while shooting and the ball goes through the hoop, she gets credited with a shot made and charged with a shot attempt, according to the NCAA. However, if that shot is not successful, the player does not get charged with a shooting attempt."LINK

Even down double figures, second half 20+ seconds left, they're full court going for steals. Our guards were good enough to take care of the ball and draw the fouls. Didn't help that Tiger players were assessed three technicals during the game for visibly jawing at the refs for making the call. Not a positive way to win friends and influence officials.

Two of those T's were back-to-back (coach/player) late in the first half when the game was still nip and tuck. We drained 6 straight FT's to build a bit of a lead and never looked back.

It looks like the Coyotes are off to a fairly good start considering the loss of what they had in scoring and moxy from last year. I would give them a 6 out of 10. The Drake game lowers the score a bit cause that was a bad one. Lee is doing a good job getting the team to play hard and getting a lot out of his players. I do worry that the talent might put their ceiling at mid level Summit team but we will see.
