So I will try to make a "VerbalCommits" style matrix for the volleyball roster/commits/recruits. Rather than putting it in a class recruiting thread, I thought if it had its own thread, I could just keep revising it in the first post. Keep in mind: D-1 WVB is a "headcount" sport with a maximum 12 scholarships. Here goes:
| DS/LIB | SET | OH/RS | MB | 5th Year | Alaina Wolff* 5-8 | Barrett Power* 5-10 |
|
| SR |
|
| Kylen Sealock 6-0 | Keyauna Linwood 5-11 | JR | Kamryn Farris 5-11 | Woodin
| Beckett
| Moses(TR)
| SO | Caitlyn Clancy 5-8 | Avery Van Hook 5-9 | Samantha Laird 6-0 | Amelia Dugger 6-0 |
|
|
| Amanda Loschen(RS) 6-2 |
| FR | Cora Hokenstad 5-7 |
| Lauren Medeck 6-0 | Morgan Bode 6-1 |
|
|
| Carly Ries 6-3 | Audrey Nelson 6-0 | - | - | - | - | - | 25 | Sierra Pokharel 5-4 |
| Ava Ball 6-0 |
|
|
|
| Kate Holthaus(RS) 5-11 |
| 26 | Kami Dyrstad 5-5 | Addie Oeth 6-0 | Bailey Boeve 5-10 |
|
|
| Sari Marks 6-0 | Reese Naeve 5-9 |
|
|
|
| Malorie Hartwig 5-11 |
|
|
|
| Romi Chlebecek 5-11 |
| 27 |
| Ellery DeBoer 5-10 |
|
|
(click on the year to go to that class's recruiting thread) Key:BLACK ==== On current roster, possibly on scholarship BURGUNDY = On current roster, past redshirted or transfer year player RED ===== On current roster, current redshirt PURPLE === On current roster, PWO GRAY ==== No longer on roster DARK GREEN = Signed LOI LIGHT GREEN = Verbal Commit DARK BLUE = High Interest Prospect MED BLUE = Med Interest Prospect LIGHT BLUE = Low Interest Prospect * = taking or planning to take covid year

I made some updates to the matrix, adding the color key and former players.
As far as non-scholarship players in the 2021 season, Slaughter's scholarship didn't count towards the total (because of the Covid exception), but that still leaves four on our roster as being non-scholarship. Women's D-1 Volleyball is a head-count sport with a 12 scholarship limit. So no partial scholarships. I know Bollweg was a walk-on, and I'm guessing that Petterson is as well. Not sure who else. Maybe Diederich? At least those kids can now have more opportunities to make some sponsorship money.
Another observation: That 2023 high school class is big! You could almost field an entire team with that class.

Nice chart. It would have taken some time to compose. I was wondering what the colors stood for. Im still hearing there will be 2 more astericks on your board in 11 months as it looks like the Coyotes stance is to wait till Senior night to make Covid Announcements. We'll see then. Spring games should be fun. I see Paumen and Sealock getting time. And whoever can bust out of the pack serving well, may take Bollwegs place. Years like this past (when all starters returned) just dont happen often. To have 4 starters return is a good start for next year....lots of players of the week and other honors sprinkled amongst them.

Yeah, I'm hoping you are right about that, but it's hard to know until it's announced. I really hope it's Juhnke and Harms that will take the extra year. I guess we will have to wait.

Just added Wolff in as a Sophomore for 2022 (transfer from Wayne State). Don't know if she is scholly or walk-on, but I have a hunch she is a good server to take that role over for the departing Bollweg. She could end up competing for Libero, too. Who knows?
Also, I (sadly) turned the page on the departing seniors...
I'll need to try and dig up some more info on our recruiting of HS Juniors and Sophomores, maybe after the BB season. If anyone knows something there, let us know...

Anything is possible, but Wolff playing any Libero for the Yotes this year I feel is unlikely. In comparing her stats against Lolo (and against weaker competition at Wayne St.) I dont see her passing her up. Now the following year could be a real dogfight. Jondle, Wolff and Clancy all working for one position. This year I kinda foresee Jondle sliding into Bollwegs spot, and with schram moving into setter role, Wolff moving into Schrams serving spot. With some college experience behind her, she could have immediate impact. Kinda disappointed in the Cancel of the Drake match this sat. Lol, i could attend a match on saturday.....but cant being on a Tuesday.

I doubt Woodin will take it from her, but so much of our success our failure is dependent on good setter play. Makes me nervous we haven't seen her set much. ... and the transfer of Reilly to SDSU...

Updated to add Farris as a 2022 Libero. A couple of notes:
* Atley Carey is no longer on the roster. We had a logjam at MB, and I'm guessing she was a walk-on.
* Farris would be a 3rd Libero on our 2022 roster, with 3 projected the next year, too. Keep in mind that she is 5'-11, so if Libero doesn't work out, she could potentially back up the front row or setter? Hard to know. She was a 3-sport athlete in HS. (Soccer, BB, VB)
* With only 12 available scholarships, some of these players are almost certainly walk-ons. Our program doesn't announce that, though. I only show them as walk-ons if I know that for a fact.

I was kind of waiting for someone to bring up Atleys name. About a month ago she announced she was going to enter the portal. Im sure this latest addition is because a spot opened up on the roster. People get moved around to different positions all the time. If they have talent, but theres a more talented person already in place, its to hard to keep that good talented athlete on the bench. USD coaches have a pretty good grasp of getting the right players into the right spots.

Her twitter still shows her as a USD player, but she's not on the GoYotes.com roster. Probably hasn't found a landing spot yet, then. With Farris, it's always a good thing to have height in this sport. Will be interesting to see what happens there. Also, I'm hoping we get to have Juhnke and Harms another year after this Fall, but nothing announced yet. For now we will have to just be happy we get them in the upcoming season. With Carey leaving, I'll guess Moses will NOT redshirt at MB. Big class (5) coming to campus next month!

Sammi didnt announce her covid year until just prior to NCAA tournament. Lolo didnt until senior night last fall. So i imagine it'll be late in season before we hear about any covid years for the 2023 year. Elizabeth didnt get much time in for spring ball this year. Hopefully her back is ready to go in a month.

*updated with Linwood transferring in. I'll update the colors when all SIX newcomers are on campus (very soon)...
Looking at this matrix, the addition of Linwood at MB provides a stop-gap between our two seniors and one freshman. Smart roster management. Hopefully, Harms will return next year for a Covid year, along with Juhnke...

Update: 6 new players now listed on the roster, two Soph transfers (Wolff and Linwood) and four incoming freshmen (Farris, Woodin, Beckett, Moses)! (I changed their colors in the matrix)
Looks like Sealock is now listed as a Sophomore, so she didn't redshirt after all. On her bio it says she played two sets in two matches in 2021, so I guess that's that. Honestly, it probably makes sense from a class balance standpoint anyway. When you look at the matrix, there are one or two hitters in every class, one or two DS/LIB in every class (I combined them into one position), one or two MB in every class, and a setter about every other year.
I'm guessing that getting that class balance is a challenging part of recruiting. At least in that respect, these coaches seem to be doing a great job.
Will be fun to see where all the new players grade out. I think we can assume that Adams, Juhnke and Harms retain their starting spots, with Weideman returning as Libero, and Schramm taking the starting Setter spot. That likely leaves starting MB and OH spots up for grabs. Pauman will battle the two newcomers for MB time, and Sealock is probably the most likely OH to earn playing time, with Johnson, Diederich and Beckett vying for backup reps. I'm still surprised Diederich is listed at OH over DS, but she will at least get some court time as a serving specialist.

I wonder how Junhke's back is doing. It bothered her in spring games, keeping her out of action. If it continues into fall season if would impact both the outside hitters and the defensive specialist as she plays 6 position. And I'm not sure who would be a good fit to be a 6 position to replace her for abit. I agree with basically all your line up predictions here. But its possible they might be forced to change if Shes not ready to go.

And I'm not sure who would be a good fit to be a 6 position to replace her for abit. I think Adams has played the back row a good bit. She was 5th in digs last year behind Lolo, Juhnke, Jurgs and Bollweg, , and 4th in assists behind Jurgs, Lolo and Juhnke. If Adams takes up Juhnke's 6-rotation role early in the season, I'd guess that means more playing time for Sealock, Johnson, and Beckett?
