I mean, it doesn't have to be an either/or kinda thing. I think both USD and SDSU have done a good job in the past at mixing local and regional rosters with a few international kids (although I can't remember the last time AJ had an international kid). The Jacks used to have the upper hand going head-to-head for a touted recruit, but these days it seems like a 50/50 deal. Aside from AJ's long tenure, and the D-1 head start, both programs now have similar accomplishments, fan support and national standing. Soon the Jacks will also have a similarly great facility to the SCSC. An escalating war. The big question is which kids will pan out and which won't. And which will transfer up/down. The transfer option is becoming a bigger thing, in both men's and women's BB. It's been a fun rivalry, and with these next few classes, things are not slowing down. I'm here for it. I agree with a lot in this post. Haven't both teams won a DII title, a WNIT Championship and made it to the Sweet 16? 2021-2- SDSU WNIT Championship team only had 4 players from SD on it but they usually have more than that. 2018-9- SDSU had 6 players from SD when they made it to the Sweet 16. They had 4 MN, 2 Neb, 1 ND and 1 Iowa. 2015-6- SDSU was 2 points away from making the Sweet 16 and they had 5 players from SD, 7 from Minn, 1 from Iowa and 1 from Denmark on that team. They also had Ena Viso on that team she was from Denmark. She did not play much though. She was also on the team in 2016-7. 2013-4- WNIT semifimal- SDSU had 6 players from SD and 8 from Minnesota. 2008-9- SDSU lost to Baylor by 2 points from making it to the Sweet 16. They had 6 players from SD on that team, 5 Minn, 2 Wisconsin and 1 Iowa. 2002-3- SDSU won the DII championship. I do not remeber the exact roster but I think it was about half from SD and half from Minnesota. There might have been 1 players from Iowa but I don't remember for sure. I went back to 2002-3 because that was their last year in DII and they won the DII Championship that year. These are the years they made it (at least) to the semifinal in the WNIT, they were within 2 points of making it to the Sweet 16 or won the DII title. The reason I posted this is because it shows that SDSU has always had SD players on their roster and been close to a top 30 (or so) team. They might be a player or two from being there consistently but they have been there several times. SDSU does have 4 players coming in this year and none of them are from SD. It look like SDSU might have all 5 players that are coming in next year from SD. The part I don't know if I agree with is about having WBB players transfer anywhere near as much as MBB. In MBB there are tons of people that will pay for the Name and Likeness. I do not see much of that in WBB. There is a chance that players might transfer to a bigger conference but players from schools like SDSU and USD can get drafted much easier in WBB than MBB. I hope I am right with that. What I would like to see if, if you transfer, you have to sit out a year. You can still get paid but you can't play for one season. That might slow it down some.

At the very least players might put a whole lot more into the thought process instead of maybe just some knee jerk reaction.

Sure, I don’t disagree that the portal is a much, much bigger deal for MBB than WBB. I never compared the two. I just said it is becoming a thing for both. The number of women in the transfer portal this past spring was pretty crazy. ORU had an extreme makeover. I’m pretty sure that was the first time USD had two (or any) starters transfer out. SDSU might be among the very few not affected. Yet.

She started all but two games in the 2017-2018 season (her junior year).

It will not work to add back the sit out rule, because then they will have everybody applying for waivers again. This will cause much more havoc and we will be right back where we were five years ago with the Jessica Shepard situation - the NCAA granting waivers to high profile players from high profile schools, while denying waivers to “lesser” players who actually have a valid reason/need to transfer.

The two Iowa players in the 22 class may not be from SD, but the combined distance away from the SD border for them is about 10 miles (Akron and Larchwood).

Sorry if you thought I was thinking you were comparing the two (WBB and MBB). I do agree that it seems like there will be more transfers in WBB, too. I just meant that in MBB, they have $$ and more draft and there isn't AS MUCH of that in WBB.

I just meant that in MBB, they have $$ and more draft and there isn't AS MUCH of that in WBB. No worries! Yeah, I think the coaching change was the primary reason for those two schools. Kyah and Maddie would not have had much of a reason to look around otherwise. There are plenty of other examples in the league, though. Denver, UND, Omaha, WIU, KC and NDSU all lost some of their best players to the portal this year. USD/SDSU dominance is further enhanced by all of this, but the conference is getting weaker and weaker. On the rest of WBB, you don't have to wait to see it. It's happening now. In 2022 there were 1284 athletes in the transfer portal - a hundred more than last year, and the most ever. For perspective, there are about 5,300 NCAA D-1 WBB players. So approximately 24% of them entered the portal. That's a nationwide average of 3.6 per team. Pretty significant. SDSU and USD have been relatively immune to it in the past, but I won't count on that going forward.

Interesting offer. She visited the previous staff, who gave her a couple of twitter follows but no offer, so I listed her here. With the new staff, if memory serves, only Gabby was following her. So I dropped her off the recruiting list(matrix). Maybe her recent performances in AAU have gotten them back on board, or other targets fallen off. Either way, I'm sure this staff would not offer if she wasn't Coyote material. Maybe this will help get her teammate Gracie Grzesk (also has an offer) on-board?
