What even is the argument in favor of mirrored scheduling? It keeps travel costs as expensive as possible, and limits the ability for fans to watch their teams. What is the positive to this? The ability to draw up the schedule in 8 seconds flat? I think one theory is it maximizes revenue, since there are a couple games at home each weekend? Combining games in a double-header is a better deal per game for fans, thus less money for the University. The place where that argument falls apart is rivalry games. It prevents a fan attending both the men's and women's games.

What exactly is the benefit of mirror scheduling? Why are we married to this idea? I can't for the life of me come up with any positives, other than it being easier to remember who you're two teams will be playing.

I can’t remember exactly, but AD Herbster talked about it in one of the YoteCast podcasts from last year. I think the ADs drive the discussion and priorities when it comes to scheduling. Probably saves money in some way. It also probably isn’t a big deal for most Summit schools’ fans, because they don’t give two sh!/$ about their WBB teams. The fact that the Dakota-4 schools actually do care should hold some weight, one would expect, wouldn’t it?

It is bad for fans like me who live 300+ miles away and would like to see both men and woman play!!
Would be better if one was Saturday and one Sunday afternoon even if occasionally.

I'm very much on record on the Twitter machine as absolutely detesting mirrored schedules.
What they seem to want fans who wish to watch both the men and women play is to simply stay home and stream the games. Makes no sense.
If you have season tickets, it ensures you miss half of both mens and womens league games.
Whatever reasons they have for sticking with this crap certainly doesn't include the fans in the equation.
Hate, hate, hate it.

Maybe the perceived benefit is that casual fans don't have to think about the schedule. There's always a home game every Thursday and Saturday. Seems pretty fringe though since most people will ask whether it's a men's or women's game and then check the schedule anyways.

I mean, they could do everything the same, but just offset the games in time, and it would be significantly better (still not great).
I think they’ll probably do that with the showdown series again, but that game needs it’s own day IMHO.
So stupid

Travel efficiency (in terms of classroom time) to me would be maximized if you put your longest trips on a Saturday, given that if we are playing in Tulsa on Thursday night those kids will never make class on Friday and have to leave earlier in the week. 3/4 of our longest trips are played on Thursdays. So not only did they make up a bogus reason for the crap scheduling, they aren't even following the logic of that reason.
Also, you hired someone to make this schedule? How do I get that job? I will happily take a paycheck from any interested organization who needs me to say "you're doing great, don't change a thing".

You know what would really bolster travel efficiency? On occasion, you schedule games so that a school can send both of their teams to a different city together. They could share a plane/bus to save on travel costs and the host venue could save by organizing one event instead of two.
