It's more about the cakewalk up the conference ladder and a playoff spot the eastern schools get by avoiding the west than it is us wanting to duck competition. Now add in another patsy in the east in Murray State and the path for the eastern schools just got easier. The imbalance in conference scheduling needs to end but it is only going to get worse now.

UNI and UND didn't play each other? What the hell? I thought the 4 Dakotas and UNI were required to play each other every year. 2012-2025 (the latest available schedule) has USD playing UNI in every single season.

It would be nice not to have to play NDSU every year. I do like the idea or playing SDSU and UND every year and rotate the rest of it. I also agree with playing a bit weaker FBS schools to try to get a win. Kansas is ok but playing teams like Oklahoma or Wisconsin is more for look and less for substance. I like games such as New Mexico. I have had enough of the Big Sky for awhile. It is nice to have a tough schedule but the MVFC grinder is plenty tough enough. Playing FBS teams like Oklahoma, KSU, Wisconsin is more about money than look. Getting a $500K check to go play in Norman is why FCS teams choose to go that route, rather than just to look cool. It's also getting more difficult to play MAC or Mountain West schools as MVFC teams have consistently competed well and won in those games. No MAC school wants to shell out $200K and also take a loss to a FCS school. Hence the scheduling difficulty for MVFC schools. Honestly, it would be a failure on our AD's behalf if we played a G5 team instead of a P5 team. We did have a game against Bowling Green once, but only because California bought us out to play in Australia or something. Getting over half a million to play a P5 team helps pay for what we need to compete in the MVFC. It would be nice to try and get Kansas every time though, rather than Oklahoma.

I would think the MVFC conference football schedules will now have to be changed to allow for the addition of Murray State. It'll be interesting to see how that is handled by the league office and if we'll keep playing everyone on a two-year home/home set up. I would imagine there'd be a lot of griping if it wasn't kept that way. Hopefully we'll play Murray right off the bat. Playing someone new always adds a bit of excitement.

Hate losing Aurich, but can’t fault him or anyone. Hopefully Bob finds a really good replacement. We’ve had solid replacements at DB & DL positions recently. I have only seen Dakota Smith in the portal thus far, gotta believe there will be a little more turnover, but less the better considering our youth.
Be interesting to see if we get any transfers out of FBS. With new QB Perez early enrolled, hopefully he can provide a change of pace (in 4 games) and help the offense situationally.
Schedule wise, it’s definitely brutal. If they can find a way to at least start 2-3, they won’t be out of contention. Hopefully they’re busting it in the weight room.

Had to come over and break some news for ya guys. Verley and another unnamed WR straight up quit the football team. Sounds like Verley isn't even planning on transferring. Blame is being pointed at the relationship with WR coach Phil Ockinga. Trouble in paradise? Jk. In all seriousness its not like you guys are really losing anything that important, might even help the culture... just figured you guys would be interested in hearing that news. I enjoy reading your posts from afar.

We've got a guy who's especially skilled in snaring tipped balls. We'd like to keep him around.

Ryan Mazurek and Carter Kuchel both tweeted their intentions to transfer today. I believe both will be grad transfers with 2 years of eligibility. Thank you to them for being Yotes.

This is an interesting compilation of several 2022 FCS vs. FBS games and their associated payouts. USD is set to receive $500k from K-State. There's a huge range from high to low, but most of them are amounts that we usually hear for these games. The odd one is at the top of the list: Idaho at Indiana for $1.3m...significantly higher than anything else. Wonder what drives these numbers? herosports.com/2022-fcs-vs-fbs-payouts-bzbz/

Probably scheduled when Idaho was still FBS. It wasn't that long ago and schedules are made so far in advance.

Yeah but you would think the drop to FCS would trigger a clause in the contract to renegotiate the price downward.

Coyotes ranked 20th in preseason poll. Six MVFC teams ranked in top 25.
