It sounds like Murray State will be admitted to the MVFC as the newest member increasing the number of schools in the conference to 12.
Early indications are there will not be divisions. The Dakota 4 are guaranteed to play each other every year. The travel restrictions the eastern schools had to the west have been lifted. So the conference will go to rotational scheduling where schools play all but 3 conference schools each season with the Dakotas the only set rivals. Basically we will still be playing Russian Roulette with the conference scheduling where some years you pull a weak schedule from the east and some years you pull a strong one.

I am surprised to hear Murray State would be allowed to join the MVFC, but if anything this helps make our schedule marginally easier in the years we may draw them. We will be playing the other 3 Dakotas every year no matter what. Now we might get to trade the occasional quality eastern team for Murray State.

I have seen only that Murray State might be admitted to the MVC. Have you seen something specific about Murray State football and the MVFC?

Jay just tweeted out a nice map of the MVFC in 2023:

Hooray. An even more imbalanced conference schedule for the western teams.
Make Murray play all the Dakotas and UNI every year for a while as terms of admission.

If there is an East/West split five of the playoff teams last year were West, and only one East. At some point the eastern schools, I'm looking at you Youngstown, have to be told play everyone equally or get out. Personally, I think a nine team conference would be perfect. Also, I would think this means there will have to be a redo of conference football schedules for 2023.

Yay. Murray State. There's a matchup I've been hoping for for years. Insert sarcastic eye roll.
The I29 corridor is a gauntlet and you have the eastern part of the conference having pillow fights over there.

I kind of wonder what USD voted on Murray State. On one hand I wouldn't vote for weakening the conference. No way should Murray State be in the MVFC. On the other hand, the diplomatic thing to do is support the MVC schools and vote 'yes' if for no other reason than to keep the peace inside the conference. It wasn't long ago they helped out the Summit schools by voting us and then UND into the conference. With this vote I would say that debt has been repaid and with that there needs to be an end to the unbalanced scheduling and travel restriction arrangements that allow the east schools to duck the tougher programs in the west.
Also, I think this puts in motion either Summit Football, NDSU becoming very public about an FBS move (and by extension all 4 Dakota schools because none of us are going to be left behind ever again), or some other shakeup that involves the Dakota 4 and some other schools, perhaps the Big Sky merger we have discussed previously. I just see NDSU as very unhappy, and very publicly unhappy, and that this is going to lead to something.

Saw mention somewhere of three pods:
- 4 Dakotas - UNI, WIU, ISU(red), ISU(blue) - YSU, Murray, SIU, Mo State play all three in your pod and five others on a rotating basis. This would seem to protect rivalries
Other thing I read somewhere was each team had to play all other teams at least four times in six years however that would work out. Didn't say antthing about rivalry protection here. Maybe the conference could have each school designate two rivalries that would be scheduled each year. I don't know. Some of this sound's complicated. I wish three teams would bail (goodbye Youngstown, Murray and Mo State) and we'd have a perfect nine team conference where everybody plays everyone. Probably very unrealistic though.

I think that pod format is a great idea. Protect your regional rivals and then play the rest of the conference evenly. I'm fed up with situations where we don't see a school for so many years at a time. We are only just now up to 12 schools. Shouldn't go 4 years without seeing a given member.

Why does it seem like it's always the teams we should handle that don't get put on the schedule?

The more I read about this the more it just stinks. Not so much because Murray State is bad, I understand the politics of it all and their move to the MVC, it's that those teams will now get to feast on the Racers and pad their conference records. Even if we go to a pod system, is there any question which pod will be overwhelmingly the strongest pod of the three?
