Would be a great get for us. Tons of upside!! We're probably a safety school at best. that’s the spirit

We're probably a safety school at best. that’s the spirit Sorry. I'm just really sour on the ncaa recruiting environment right now. Even if you are able to bring in good players as a mid-major, you can expect them to leave for a bigger school once they've established themselves. It's like out-kicking the coverage in the dating world. Better offers keep coming. The transfer portal is to blame. I would love to put 5 all conference players on the floor but chances are you can only keep 1 of them for 4 years. I hate it

Barnes is a 6-10 '23 graduate and is from a major metropolitan area who still doesn't have a major offer? I don't think we are a safety school. We may turn out to be THE school.
That doesn't mean he won't turn out to be a really good player. It's the type of player USD has to be interested in. I'd compare him to Hill and Branch, two other big men without major offers. Give them a year to get stronger and develop, and they might turn out to be players who contribute a lot in the Summit League.
I understand why the portal is frustrating, but I'm always in favor of the players having more agency over where they want to play. That overrides any frustration I may have with a player becoming "too good" to stay.

I'll have a friendly disagreement with you on some of that, but I have also resigned to the fact that if the coaches can go at any time, the players should get some leeway too. I think it's all bad for the game.

The portal (and NIL) definitely level-sets talent. While it’s frustrating to see top mid-major guys transfer out (but not always), it also enables major conference bench players to seek out more playing time at the mid-major level. For example, I don’t think any of us would have complained if Mors had transferred here from Wisconsin. That’s how I think of it.

Love it. I’d gladly welcome any brother of Damani to USD.

BTW, Cameron Barnes committed to Ole Miss yesterday. Thanks, I’m updating the recruiting matrix, and saw Will Underwood just committed to Wake Forest, too. I’ll assume he’s walking on. The only one who still hasn’t committed anywhere is James Rust from Utah.

With this, I would suggest that we are probably now full.

6-6 Guard from JUCO Chipola College in Florida. Originally from Colorado. Nice! I don't know how he was ranked as a JUCO player, but that's a big guard!

Nice at least size wise we will be able to match up well in the summit next year.

Nice at least size wise we will be able to match up well in the summit next year. Overall, we might just be the tallest team in the Summit.

This is how you get better quickly in this age of college basketball. There is a very good chance we'll be the tallest 1-3 on most nights. On average we'll probably be 4 inches taller than last year everywhere but the 5. That's a huge difference. And if they are skilled and play on both ends of the floor we have the makings of a good team. I like what we've been able to do.
