Yesterday, women's track and field snapped NDSU's 14 year indoor winning streak in dominating fashion! Go Yotes!

It was a great weekend for both the men and women with many great individual performances. The men were tied for 1st place with SDSU going into the last event, the 4x400 relay. They finished one spot behind SDSU in the relay and 2 points back in the team race. Individual performances of note included: Dylan Kautz: 1st place 60m Demar Francis: 1st place in 200m and 400m, named Outstanding Male Tack Performer Jacob Jenkins: 1st place triple jump Jack Durst: 1st place high jump Erik Haamer: 1st place pole vault, qualified for the national meet (Coyotes took top 5 pole vault spots I believe) Sara Reifenrath: 1st place in the 200m (meet and school record) and 400m, named Most Outstanding Female Performer of meet. Marleen Mulla: 1st place pole vault, broke her national record for her home country of Estonia and qualified for the national meet, named Female Newcomer of the Meet (Coyotes took top 5 spots I believe) Danii Angelin: 1st place high jump, Carly Hering was runner up 4x400 relay: 1st place, meet and school record (Madison Jochum, Moe Bridgeon, Anna Robinson, Sara Reifenrath) Distance Medley relay: 1st place (Madison Jochum, Alli Wroblewski, Haley Arens, Helen Gould) Many other great performances, too many to remember them all Bottom line, Lucky Huber and his staff are doing a great job and have created a terrific winning culture in Vermillion!

Does anyone know what the deal is with our star vaulter Eerik Haamer? Seems like he hasn't competed in a few weeks, including the Summit Outdoor Championships, in which the men's vault was won by a Jackrabbit. By a huge margin. USD only had two scorers in the event. Are we suddenly losing our dominance of that event? Are injuries the reason?

Are we suddenly losing our dominance of that event? Are injuries the reason? Injuries mainly. We currently have three all-Americans, two women and one on the men's team, and only one of the three competed in the Summit League meet. Two are freshmen and one is a sophomore. Eerik Haamer injured himself a few weeks ago attempting a height to move up into the top three nationally after he had won the event and hasn't vaulted since. He would have been heavily favored to win had he been available. I hope he's ready for regionals. A few of the other really performed way below their capabilities, but they're all young and inconsistent still. The SDSU vaulter who won it is a super senior and very talented earning all-American status last year. He was always hidden in Nilsen's and now Haamer's shadow, so this was a great opportunity for him to step up. In many ways I'm not sad he won it because he's also great kid and earned his turn in the spotlight. If this sounds strange I will note that I have nothing against SDSU athletes, especially the ones I know and get along with, it's just some of the fans that are hard for me to stomach. Our vaulting will be fine and should continue to dominate in both men and women for the next several years as both squads are extremely young.

I feel better, and like you, hope Eerik can return to competition at the regionals.

As long as Derek Miles coaches here we will be great at vaulting. It just looked like we had a rare and ill-timed bad weekend even without Erik.
In other news, our women claimed the outright championship for the first time in a long time! It's awesome to see how great they have become.
The men are top heavy with talent and win plenty of events, but have lacked the depth needed to compete for the outdoor title for a while now.

The youth movement in our athletics department continues with the new XC/distance running coach. Fife joins the Yotes with quite a few skins on his wall for a young coach. Good luck and Go Yotes! Coach Fife Article

A HUGE congratulations to both the men's and women's indoor track teams for bringing home the gold in the Summit League meet this weekend. Don't know if USD has ever swept both titles in the league meet before.

Not in the summit league! As a member for the 2012-2015 squads, even I was surprised to see our men get it done this weekend. Nonetheless, this is monumental! It’s especially amazing to see them accomplish this feat in the Dome. I hope this serves as a shot in the arm for the rest of our programs as we’ve been needing someone other than volleyball to prove we can be great.

This picture is of Jacy Pulse's anchor leg in the 4 x 4. She took the baton about 15 meters behind the runner from SDSU but passed her down the home stretch. The reactions of her team mates and others in this picture are awesome.

Great job by our three pole vaulters Marleen, Gen, Cassidy and high jumper Danii at the National meet in NM finishing 3rd, 8th, 14th and 13th respectively!! And the neat thing is that three of these Lady Yotes are only sophomores!!
Also remember these four are the ONLY Summit league athletes to qualify for the National meet!!
VERY IMPRESSIVE LADIES!!!
