Just an update on the 2025 Class with regard to the recruiting rules.
Coaches cannot have contact with 2025 (Sophomore) recruits until June 15, two months from now. Then Coaches can not only contact recruits, but can make offers.
The recruits still can't take official or unofficial visits until August 1st, but they CAN attend camps, I think.
We should expect to see some recruits in this class verbally committing to schools throughout the summer, especially July and August. Some recruits (and programs) will wait to commit until their Junior or senior year, but expect to see a lot of action this Summer, as the top teams try to lock down their top targets.
As a reference, here's when we got commits from the 2024 class last summer:
July 25 - Lauren Medeck July 26 - Carly Ries July 30 - Morgan Bode
Nov 17 - Audrey Nelson
Many P-5 schools were getting commits in late June and early July, so there is a domino-effect. At any rate, we should see some movement in recruiting targets through the summer. Will be fun to follow.

I usually wait until recruits have a couple of follows from either our coaches or the USD Volleyball account, but because things are likely to change quickly in June, as teams switch from top targets to 2nd or 3rd options, I thought I'd give a quick list of some 2025 players that have single follows from Runde or Williamson right now. Some might be 1st tier targets, or 2nd, some might be walk-on targets. Some might just be a player that showed up to a camp, or has a personal connection to the coach... who knows?* edit - after looking up player rankings, I'm pretty sure most of these are top-tier targets. Many of them are likely long-shots, other than some of the SD and IA/NE kids. Liberos/DS:two follows:Sierra Pokharel (see above) - Omaha, NE (#6 NE, #2 DS/L) TO SOUTH DAKOTA!

So official offers will start going out for this 2025 class in a couple of days. It usually goes like a domino-effect, with the top targets and top recruiting teams in the country (Stanford, Nebraska, Texas, etc) announcing commitments first, then schools and recruits start looking at their second and third options, etc. I doubt we will see any commitments for USD for a while, but it will be interesting to see where some of these targets are going. Natalie Wardlow is ranked by multiple services as a top-15 or top-20 player in the country, and a top-3 Middle Blocker. So I'll assume she will be going to a major program (no idea where). If USD actually has a shot with her, I'd be shocked. I have no idea on the other kids. Sierra Pokharel (Libero from Omaha) gets a lot of exposure from playing on a top AAU team, and she is ranked as the overall #6 player in Nebraska (#2 Libero). With that having been said, I don't think Liberos are always on a scholarship, even at the top schools. There just aren't that many scholarships to give out in this sport. So maybe a lower-tier school could offer a player like her a full ride? Who knows. Abbey Hayes (#1 in Iowa) will have plenty of schools offering her, as well. Probably a pipe dream for USD. Should be fun to see if the Yotes can follow up a historically well-ranked 2024 class with a good 2025 one. I have to think there is some momentum here, with Williamson and Runde both sticking around. Go Yotes!

OK, it's June 15th! Schools can "officially" officially offer kids, contact kids, ... the works. And not just in Volleyball, either. Expect some recruiting movement in many sports. The first dominoes will likely fall in the next few days, but there will be plenty of schools and kids who will want to do visits first.
I'm going to guess that Wardlow makes her decision in the next week, with Hayes not far behind. I'll guess Hayes to Iowa - she just did a camp with them a week ago. Pokharel might take a little longer.
BTW, Pokharel will be playing in Sioux Falls at the Pentagon alongside three of our 2024 recruits on "Team Nebraska" July 23-25. There will also be a "team Iowa" and "Team SD", so maybe other recruits we are looking at will be there, too.

Looks like Harrisburg's 2025 Libero, Maggie Meister is recently #54 in VolleyballMag's national rankings! Her twitter has follows from a ton of P-5 programs, but the entire staffs of all 4 Dakota schools follow her, and she follows them as well. I'll guess she ends up at one of the 4?

I have to feel if those 4 schools are your top options then USD is the choice....unless she has concerns that playing time might be an issue due to depth.

True, and I'd also add in that scholarships are tight in this sport. USD might be asking her to walk on and another school offering a scholarship? (just a hypothetical, I have no inside info on that) As a parent that cannot afford to pay for my kid's tuition, that's a hard choice. Liberos and Defensive Specialists don't always get scholarships, I think. Some teams value that position more than others. Think of kicker scholarships in football as an example. I may be totally off on what schools are pursuing her the hardest, too. I'm just going by twitter follows, which may mean nothing at all. We should find out this summer, though.

Looks like 5-10 Libero Kirsch from Sioux Falls Washington just announced she committed to Illinois…
Her sister plays for Kansas, too. Here's an interview of her with Sami Slaughter (working for VB Adrenaline). Some interesting comments on how some of the top schools recruit, with offers going out to a "top two" for the position, and the first to accept gets the scholarship:

Natalie Wardlow to Wisconsin….
So far the announcements are from Nebraska and Texas, with a couple from Illinois and Wisconsin, and a handful of others. The top 20 or 30 recruits are mostly who is involved right now…. Dominos falling…

I have a WAG prediction for this class: (Wild-Ass Guess)
I think if Sierra Pokharel is not offered by Illinois, we might be battling Wake Forest for her services... (this WAG is only based on Twitter follows, so don't bet the farm)
Illinois seems to be filling up their class quickly, so I might be able to rule them out soon.
All total speculation by me. She is teammates with two of our 2024 recruits, Medeck and Bode on Premiere Nebraska AAU (she plays up a grade). Also, Williamson now follows Pockharel, where before it was just Runde and the USDVB account.
Another related WAG: If we miss on Pokharel, I think we offer Maggie Meister a scholarship spot. I doubt we use two schollys on Liberos/DS in one class.
